The mounting housing for the screw-in rear towing eye on your Seat Leon is positioned on the right side of the rear bumper behind a removable access lid ››› Fig. 224.

Please note that vehicle models factory-equipped with an integrated towing bracket (tow hitch) do not feature any threaded housing for the screw-in towing eye behind this lid. In such cases, the factory tow hitch itself must be utilized or deployed for towing operations.

Always carefully observe and follow all general safety instructions and guidelines regarding vehicle towing.

Assemble the rear towing eye (cars without a factory-equipped towing bracket)

  • Take the towing eye out of the vehicle tool kit stored within the luggage compartment.
  • Press firmly on the lower edge or side of the bumper lid ››› Fig. 224 to unclip and release it from the fascia.
  • Remove the lid completely and let it dangle safely from the vehicle by its tether.
  • Screw the towing eye into the exposed threaded housing by turning it anticlockwise ››› Fig. 225, ››› until it reaches the stop. Use a suitable strong object to completely and securely tighten the towing eye in its housing.
  • After towing is finished, unscrew the towing eye by turning it clockwise with a suitable tool.
  • Replace the cover lid and press on it until the retaining tab snaps firmly back into the bumper structure.
  • Clean the towing eye if necessary and return it to its designated spot in the luggage compartment tool kit.

NOTICE

  • The towing eye must always be completely and firmly tightened before any load is applied. Otherwise, it could loosen or release while towing and tow-starting.
  • If your Seat Leon is factory-equipped with an integrated towing bracket, it is only permissible to tow using a rigid tow bar if that bar has been specifically engineered and approved for installation with a tow hitch. If an unsuited tow bar is attached, both the tow hitch and vehicle chassis components can suffer severe damage. Instead, a flexible tow rope should be preferred.
