Seat Leon >> Towing

Preliminary steps

  • Secure the tow cable or tow bar exclusively to the designated attachment points provided by the factory. Depending on your vehicle's equipment level, these attachment points may consist of a dedicated towing device or a screw-in towing eye.
  • Ensure that the tow cable is straight and not twisted. A twisted cable can cause the threaded towing eye to loosen and unscrew itself during the towing process.
  • Switch on the ignition and activate the hazard warning lights on both vehicles. Always take into account any other national statutory provisions that may apply in this regard.
  • Carefully review and comply with all specific towing instructions provided in the owner's manual of the other vehicle involved.

Towing vehicle (lead)

  • Do not start driving forward until the towing cable is fully taut and stretched.
  • Accelerate forward with extreme care and gentleness.
  • Avoid abrupt braking and sudden steering maneuvers.

For vehicles equipped with a manual gearbox:

  • When starting to pull away, engage and release the clutch pedal with utmost gentleness.

Towed vehicle (following)

  • Ensure that the ignition remains switched on so that the steering wheel lock does not engage unexpectedly, and so that you can operate the turn signals and windscreen wipers if required.
  • Keep in mind that the brake servo booster and power steering systems only function when the engine is actively running. Without engine power, you will have to depress the brake pedal considerably harder, and significantly more physical force will be required to turn the steering wheel.
  • Release the electronic parking brake correctly using the electronic parking brake control switch.
  • Ensure the tow cable is kept taut at all times during transit.
  • Disengage any gear or place the gear selector lever firmly into the N (Neutral) position.

WARNING Never attach a tow rope or tow bar to suspension axles, steering linkages, or running gear components. These parts are not designed for towing loads and could easily be bent or broken, resulting in a dangerous accident and serious personal injury.

  • Always seek professional specialist assistance and, if applicable, have your Seat Leon transported safely on a flatbed tow truck.

NOTICE Your Seat Leon can only be towed if the state of charge of the 12-volt battery is sufficient to disengage the electronic parking brake and release the steering column lock. If the vehicle has a completely dead power supply or an electrical system fault, the engine must first be jump-started to release the electronic parking brake and deactivate the steering lock before towing can commence.
