Power socket for trailer

Your Seat Leon is equipped with a modern 13-pole electrical power socket designed to establish a secure connection between the vehicle and a hitched trailer. When the engine is running, electronic appliances and auxiliary devices on the trailer are supplied with electrical power directly through this connection (specifically via pin 9 and pin 10 of the trailer socket interface).

Once the onboard electronic control system detects that a trailer has been properly plugged in, electrical consumers on the trailer draw power through this circuit. Pin 9 carries a permanent live electrical feed, which powers features such as the trailer's interior lighting systems.

Higher-draw electrical appliances, such as a refrigerator inside a camping caravan, are designed to receive electrical current only when the vehicle engine is actively running (routed through pin 10).

To prevent overloading the vehicle's electrical distribution network, you must never bridge, cross-connect, or tie together the separate ground wires assigned to pin 3, pin 11, and pin 13.

If your trailer is equipped with an older 7-contact connector plug instead of a 13-pole plug, you will need to use an approved adapter cable between the vehicle socket and the trailer. When using a 7-pin adapter, the specialized power function corresponding to pin 10 will not be available.

Tow cable

The breakaway safety cable or tow tether must always be securely fixed to the towing vehicle's designated attachment point while maintaining enough slack to allow your Seat Leon to negotiate sharp turns smoothly without binding. However, always ensure that the cable is suspended properly and does not drag or rub against the ground while driving.

Trailer tail lights

Before every journey, always perform a visual check of the trailer's rear lighting array to confirm that all tail lights, brake signals, and indicators are working correctly and comply with local traffic safety regulations. When your trailer is connected to the factory-mounted towing system, switching on the rear fog lamp will automatically deactivate the rear fog lamp on the towing vehicle itself, routing the fog illumination exclusively to the trailer.

Include in the anti-theft alarm

The attached trailer is automatically integrated into the vehicle's anti-theft security perimeter provided the following conditions are fully met:

  • Your Seat Leon is factory-equipped with the original anti-theft alarm system.
  • The vehicle is equipped with a factory-fitted towing bracket.
  • The trailer is properly connected electrically to the towing vehicle via the 13-pole trailer power socket.
  • The electrical wiring systems of both the towing vehicle and the trailer are in flawless condition, free of faults, short circuits, or damage.
  • The vehicle is locked securely with the vehicle key and the anti-theft alarm monitoring system is fully armed.

When your Seat Leon is locked, the perimeter anti-theft alarm system will automatically be triggered if the electrical connection between the vehicle and the hitched trailer is abruptly cut off or severed.

Before hitching or unhitching a trailer, always remember to temporarily turn off the vehicle's anti-theft alarm. If you fail to do so, the sudden vehicle movement and change in body angle detected by the tilt sensor could cause the security alarm to go off unexpectedly.

Trailers with LED tail lights

Due to technical design and electrical load differences inherent to LED technology, trailers fitted with light-emitting diode (LED) rear lights cannot be electronically integrated into the anti-theft alarm monitoring system.

Consequently, when your Seat Leon is locked, the security alarm will not sound if the electrical connection to the trailer is cut if that trailer is equipped with LED rear lighting assemblies.

WARNING If the wiring harness or electrical cables are improperly, loosely, or incorrectly connected, it can lead to excessive electrical current draw and feedback supplied to the trailer circuit, causing severe malfunctions throughout the entire vehicle electronic control system, unexpected failures, dangerous accidents, and serious personal injuries.

  • Ensure that any maintenance, diagnostics, or repairs that need to be performed on the vehicle's towing electrical system are carried out exclusively by a qualified specialized workshop.
  • Never attempt to connect the trailer's electrical system directly into the wiring harness of the rear tail lights or tap into unauthorized power sources.

WARNING Accidental contact or bridging between the metal pins inside the trailer power socket can cause severe electrical short circuits, overloading of the wiring harness, or total failure of the vehicle and trailer lighting systems, which can consequently trigger hazardous driving situations, accidents, and serious injuries.

  • Never connect or bridge the individual metal pins of the trailer power socket to each other with tools, wires, or metal objects.
  • Make sure any corrective work on bent, jammed, or damaged socket pins is performed professionally by a specialized workshop rather than attempting risky DIY repairs.

NOTICE Never leave a heavy trailer fully hitched and connected to your Seat Leon when the vehicle is parked for extended periods; always support the trailer properly on its integrated support wheel or landing jacks. If the parked vehicle rises or settles—due to, for example, ambient temperature changes, cargo load variations, or a slow tire deflation—abnormal mechanical stress and pressure will be placed on the towing bracket and trailer coupling mechanism, causing structural damage to both the vehicle and the trailer.

Note

  • In the event of any anomalies, erratic behavior, or faults occurring within the electrical systems of your Seat Leon, the trailer wiring, or the anti-theft alarm monitoring system, have the complete setup inspected immediately by a specialized professional workshop.
  • If auxiliary trailer accessories or appliances draw electrical energy continuously through the trailer power socket while the vehicle engine is turned off, the starter battery will rapidly discharge.
  • If the vehicle's starting battery voltage drops too low during operation, the onboard power management system will automatically cut off the auxiliary electrical connection to the trailer to preserve engine starting capability.
