Seat Leon >> Warning levels and brake assist

Front Assist is operational starting from speeds of 5 km/h (3 mph) upwards. Depending on various ambient conditions—such as vehicle travel speed, the speed and category of the recognised obstacle, and traffic dynamics—certain warning stages described below may be omitted to optimize system performance.

Safety distance warning

The exact timing of this safety distance warning varies dynamically depending on individual driver behaviour, current vehicle speed, and the relative speed differential between both vehicles.

The safety distance warning function is active from approximately

65 km/h (40 mph) and upwards.

Advance warning

The moment the warning triggers varies depending on the unfolding traffic situation and driver responses. Simultaneously, the vehicle's braking system will proactively prime and prepare for potential emergency braking interventions.

When Front Assist is actively connected and running, visual indications from other secondary infotainment functions on the screen may occasionally be hidden.

Critical warning

If the driver fails to respond to the initial advance warning, the system may actively intervene in the brakes by generating a brief, sharp physical jolt to alert the driver of the imminent danger of a collision.

Automatic braking

If the driver also fails to react to the critical warning jolt, the system can initiate independent autonomous emergency braking, progressively ramping up deceleration force in accordance with the criticality of the situation.

Driver emergency braking assistance system

If the driver begins applying the brakes after the critical warning but the system detects that the brake pedal is not being pressed with sufficient force, the braking intensity will be boosted automatically. This hydraulic brake assist intervention only occurs if the pedal is pressed down firmly.

WARNING

  • The system cannot guarantee that a collision will be completely prevented in every scenario, although it can significantly minimize the consequences of an impact by reducing vehicle speed and crash force.
  • When Front Assist automatically applies the brakes, the physical resistance of the brake pedal increases, making it feel "harder" underfoot.
  • Automatic braking interventions by Front Assist can be interrupted instantly by pressing the accelerator pedal or steering sharply.
  • Front Assist may decelerate your Seat Leon until it comes to a complete standstill. However, the automated brake system does not hold the vehicle in place permanently.
