Seat Leon >> Introduction
The core objective of the Front Assist system integrated into your Seat Leon is to actively prevent head-on collisions against objects or road users crossing or sharing the vehicle's path, or alternatively, to minimize the severity and consequences of unavoidable impacts.
The intelligent safety function is engineered to avoid collisions against:
- Stationary parked vehicles.
- Vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists travelling ahead in the same lane and direction.
- Pedestrians and cyclists who unexpectedly cross the vehicle's path.
Front Assist detects these potential obstacles using a high-resolution optical camera mounted on the upper portion of the windscreen alongside a front-mounted radar sensor.
Furthermore, Front Assist identifies different road users—such as other vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcycles—by combining input from the optical windscreen camera and up to three radar sensors positioned on the front of your Seat Leon.
Depending on a variety of ambient factors and how critical the immediate driving situation becomes, the system operates in a staggered, progressive manner.
It begins by warning the driver early on, and if there is no response or an insufficient reaction from the driver, it proceeds to trigger autonomous emergency braking or initiate supportive evasive manoeuvres as detailed in the following sections.
The automated intervention of the system can be cancelled at any time if the driver depresses the accelerator pedal or turns the steering wheel firmly.
Depending on the vehicle's specific equipment level and regional market specifications, Front Assist also encompasses the following advanced safety sub-functions:
- Pedestrian protection
- Cyclist protection
- Dodge assist (evasive steering support)
- Oncoming vehicle braking when turning at junctions
- Junction assist
WARNING
- Front Assist is an advanced driving assistance function that can never substitute for continuous driver attentiveness and focus.
- Front Assist cannot alter the fundamental laws of physics nor replace the driver in maintaining full physical control of the vehicle and reacting to potential emergency situations.
- Following any Front Assist emergency warning prompt, you must pay immediate attention to the road conditions and take active steps to avoid a collision where safely possible.
Warning levels and brake assist
Front Assist is operational starting from speeds of 5 km/h (3 mph) upwards. Depending on various ambient conditions—such as vehicle travel speed, the speed and category of the recognised obstacle, a ...
