Seat Leon >> Driving with a loaded vehicle
To preserve safe handling, optimal stability, and predictable driving characteristics when transporting cargo in your Seat Leon, please keep the following operational recommendations in mind:
- Place all luggage and items securely within the designated cargo areas.
- Accelerate with particular care and cautious throttle application.
- Avoid sharp, aggressive braking and sudden, abrupt steering manoeuvres.
- Begin braking earlier than usual to account for the increased vehicle mass.
- If applicable, please review and follow all safety information regarding the correct use of the roof rack.
WARNING Cargo or luggage that shifts around uncontrollably can seriously endanger the stability and safety of your Seat Leon, extend the required braking distance during hard or emergency stops, and lead to serious accidents and injuries.
- Secure the load correctly and firmly to prevent it from shifting during transit.
- Secure all heavy objects using suitable lashing straps, cargo nets, or tie-down belts anchored to the factory attachment points.
- Ensure that the rear seat backrests are completely and securely engaged in their upright latches before setting off.
Driving with the rear lid open
Driving with the tailgate or rear lid open presents a high level of hazard. Secure all transported objects and the open rear lid properly, and take all necessary safety measures before moving.
Driving with the rear lid open significantly increases the aerodynamic drag of your Seat Leon, which in turn leads to markedly higher fuel consumption. It is therefore strongly recommended that you avoid driving with the rear lid open whenever possible.
WARNING Driving with the rear lid unlocked or open can cause serious injury to vehicle occupants and others.
- Always drive with the rear lid fully closed and securely latched.
- Place all objects securely inside the luggage compartment. Otherwise, loose items could slide or fall out of the boot and injure road users driving directly behind you.
- Always drive carefully and with heightened care, attention, and anticipation.
- Avoid harsh braking and sudden steering manoeuvres, as an open rear lid could move or flap uncontrollably.
- When transporting long items that protrude from the luggage compartment, mark them clearly with a warning flag to alert other road users. Always bear in mind and comply with all applicable local legal provisions.
- Never use the rear lid itself to support, tie down, or secure oversized objects protruding from the luggage compartment.
- If a luggage rack or carrier is fitted directly to the rear lid, remove both the rack and its load before attempting to drive with the rear lid open.
NOTICE An open rear lid changes the overall height and, in certain situations, the overall length profile of your Seat Leon.
Note Depending on regional traffic laws, driving with the rear lid open may be strictly forbidden. Please observe the legal regulations and highway codes of the country in question.
