Seat Leon >> Driving on flooded roads

To prevent serious mechanical or electrical damage to your Seat Leon when navigating flooded roads or standing water, carefully take the following precautions into account:

  • Water levels should never rise above the lower edge of the vehicle bodywork.
  • Drive strictly at a slow, pedestrian pace to avoid creating waves that can enter engine intakes.
  • Never stop the vehicle in deep water, shift into reverse, or switch off the engine.
  • Oncoming vehicles driving in the opposite direction can generate waves that raise the surrounding water level high enough to flood your engine bay or prevent your vehicle from crossing safely.

WARNING After driving through flooded zones or deep puddles, braking effectiveness can decrease temporarily if the brake discs or pads become damp or coated in water film.

Note

  • Driving through flooded areas may severely damage vital vehicle components, including the engine, powertrain, transmission, or sensitive electrical control modules.
  • Avoid driving through salt water or seawater whenever possible to prevent accelerated corrosion of underbody metal parts.
  • Whenever driving through water or waterlogged stretches, the Start-Stop system must be switched off manually.

Running in

Please carefully observe the manufacturer instructions for running in new mechanical components to ensure long-term durability.

Running-in the engine

A brand-new engine in your Seat Leon must go through a proper break-in period during its first 1500 kilometres (1000 miles). During these initial operating hours, internal mechanical friction throughout the engine is significantly greater than it will be later once all moving parts have fully bedded down and polished together.

How your vehicle is driven during this first 1500 km (1000 miles) directly influences future engine performance, efficiency, and longevity.

Throughout the active life of your Seat Leon, the engine should be driven at moderate speeds—especially when cold—to minimize component wear and extend its useful operating life. Never force the vehicle to drive at extremely low engine speeds in too high a gear. Always engage a lower gear immediately whenever the engine begins to run roughly or "irregularly".

For the first 1000 km or 600 miles, please keep the following rules:

  • Do not use full throttle or press the accelerator to the floor.
  • Do not force the engine to run above two-thirds of its maximum allowable speed range.
  • Do not tow a trailer or heavy load.

Between 1000 and 1500 kilometres (600 to 1000 miles), you can gradually increase engine power output until eventually reaching full maximum speed and higher engine revolutions.

Running in new tyres and brake pads

  • Special care must be taken following the replacement of wheel rims and installation of brand-new tyres, as initial grip levels will be lower until tread surfaces are roughened.
  • Pay close attention to initial bedding-in requirements for newly replaced brakes to restore full stopping friction.

For the sake of the environment

Running in your new engine gently and patiently increases overall engine durability, optimizes fuel efficiency, and noticeably reduces long-term engine oil consumption.
