Opening the rear lid

and close the rear lid.
The rear tailgate of your Seat Leon Sportstourer is automatically unlocked as soon as an authorised vehicle key is recognised in the immediate vicinity.
- Unlock the vehicle central locking and briefly press the exterior handle of the rear lid. On models equipped with Keyless Access, you can directly press the handle of the tailgate without unlocking doors first.
- EITHER: pull the control button on the driver's door panel upwards for approximately 1 second ››› Fig. 81. This convenient button operates even when the engine ignition is switched off.
- OR: press and hold the tailgate button on the remote vehicle key fob for approximately 1 second. If the vehicle is currently locked, only the rear lid is unlocked while all passenger doors remain securely locked.
- OR: on vehicles equipped with Keyless Access and hands-free sensor- controlled opening, you can open the rear tailgate effortlessly by moving one foot underneath the sensor zone located below the rear bumper (Easy Open). The power rear lid will open automatically.
Closing the rear lid
Fig. 82 Rear lid: button for closing the rear lid.
- Briefly press the dedicated
button located
on the lower edge of the rear lid
››› Fig. 82, ››› in Introduction on page 112. - OR: pull up and hold the
button on the
driver's door panel until the rear lid is completely closed
››› Fig. 81 (this method requires the ignition to be switched on). - EITHER: press and hold the tail button
of the vehicle
key fob continuously until the rear lid closes fully. - OR: on vehicles with Keyless Access and sensor- controlled operation, make a kicking motion with your foot in the area of the sensors located below the rear bumper (Easy Open). The authorised vehicle key must be present within the exterior Keyless Access system detection zone right at the rear of the vehicle.
- OR: firmly grip the rear lid by one of the recessed handles fitted into the interior trim lining and pull it downwards to close it manually.
The electric rear lid lowers smoothly to its final closed position and locks automatically ››› in Introduction on page 112.
Interrupting opening or closing
After the automatic opening or closing sequence of the tailgate has started, the
action can be halted immediately at any point by pressing one of the
control buttons.
If you press one of the
buttons
again, the rear lid will reverse direction and move again in the original path.
If the moving rear lid meets any mechanical resistance or encounters an unexpected obstacle during the automatic opening or closing cycle, the operation will be interrupted instantly.
During an automatic closing process, the power rear lid will reverse and open slightly to clear the obstruction.
- Check and inspect why it has not been possible to open or close the rear lid properly.
- Clear any obstructions and try to operate the tailgate opening or closing again.
- If necessary due to a power loss, the rear lid of your Seat Leon can be operated, opened, or closed manually using reasonable physical force.
Particular features if towing a trailer
If the factory-fitted towing bracket is electrically connected to a trailer, the electric rear lid of your Seat Leon can only be opened or closed using the physical control buttons located directly on the rear lid itself.
Audible warnings
Throughout the automatic process of opening or closing the rear lid, distinctive audible warning tones can be heard for safety. Exception: when the rear lid is operated manually using the exterior handle or closed using the dedicated button on the rear lid ››› Fig. 82.
Modifying and saving the opening angle
If the vertical clearance space behind or above your Seat Leon is restricted and less than the full travel arc of the tailgate, you can easily change and limit the maximum opening angle of the rear lid.
To save a new custom opening angle position, the rear lid must be open at least halfway along its travel path.
- Interrupt the automatic opening movement at the desired height position by pressing the stop button.
- Press and hold the
button ››› Fig.
82 on the rear lid
for at least 3 seconds continuously.
The new opening angle is now stored in memory. The successful saving process is indicated visually by the blinking of the exterior hazard warning lights and an audible confirmation beep.
Resetting and saving the opening angle
For the rear lid of your Seat Leon to reopen to its full factory height again, the customized opening angle must be reset and reprogrammed.
- Release the rear lid and let it open automatically to the currently saved restricted height.
- Gently lift the rear lid further upwards by hand as far as it physically goes. To do this, a moderate amount of firm physical force will have to be used against the struts.
- Press and hold the
button ››› Fig.
82 on the rear lid
for at least 3 seconds. - This action successfully clears the restriction and resets the default factory-set opening angle. The saving process is confirmed by the blinking of the hazard warning lights and a distinct audible warning tone.
Automatic protection against overheating
If the electric tailgate mechanism is operated repeatedly in quick succession over a short space of time, the electronic control module automatically switches off power output to prevent internal motor overheating.
Once the drive system has cooled down sufficiently, normal electric operation can be resumed. Until that point, the rear lid can still be safely opened and closed manually using reasonable physical force.
If the vehicle 12V battery happens to be disconnected or the corresponding electrical fuse blows out while the rear lid is open, the system memory will lose its position reference and require resetting. This simple reset requires closing the rear lid completely by hand one time.
WARNING If a heavy accumulation of snow builds up on the rear lid or if it is heavily loaded with accessories, the power rear lid may fail to open properly or, after opening, it may lower unexpectedly by itself due to the excessive extra weight, leading to serious crushing injury.
- Never attempt to open the rear lid when there is a thick layer of snow on it or when carrying heavy cargo mounted (e.g. on a bicycle rack).
- Before operating the rear lid, thoroughly clear away any accumulated snow or remove the external load.
