Seat Leon >> Attachment systems

Depending on the target country and regional market regulations, various attachment systems are utilized for safely securing child seats inside your vehicle.

Attachment systems overview

  • ISOFIX: ISOFIX is a standardized international attachment system engineered for the quick, intuitive, and secure installation of child seats. Fitting a child seat via ISOFIX establishes a rigid mechanical connection directly between the child restraint frame and the vehicle body structure.

The child seat is constructed with two rigid attachment arms, commonly known as connectors. These connectors latch directly into the dedicated ISOFIX retaining rings positioned between the seat cushion and the backrest of the outer rear seats in your Seat Leon. ISOFIX anchorage systems are used predominantly across European markets. Where specified, ISOFIX installations may need to be supplemented with an upper Top Tether strap or a telescopic floor support bracket to ensure stability.

  • Automatic three-point seat belt. Whenever possible, it is always preferable to secure child safety seats using the rigid ISOFIX mounting system rather than restraining them with the vehicle's standard three-point automatic seat belt.

Additional attachment:

  • Top Tether: the Top Tether strap is routed over the top of the rear seat backrest and attached to a designated anchorage ring using a heavy-duty securing hook. These anchor points are located on the rear face of the backrest inside the luggage compartment.

The dedicated retaining rings for securing the Top Tether strap are clearly identified by an embossed anchor symbol.

  • Support bracket: certain child safety seat models rest against the floor of the vehicle using an adjustable support bracket or foot leg.

The floor support bracket effectively prevents the child seat from tipping forward or pitching during a sudden collision or hard braking maneuver.

Child seats equipped with a lower support bracket must only be used on the front passenger seat or on the outer rear seats of your Seat Leon. Before mounting this specific type of restraint system, consult the list of approved vehicles supplied in the instruction manual of the child seat manufacturer to verify compatibility.

Recommended systems for attaching child seats

SEAT recommends securing child safety seats using the following preferred attachment configurations:

  • Infant carriers or rear-facing child seats: ISOFIX combined with a floor support bracket, or an approved i-Size restraint system.
  • Forward-facing child seats: ISOFIX combined with a Top Tether upper anchorage strap.

WARNING Improper positioning or incorrect usage of the child seat support bracket can lead to severe or fatal injuries in an accident.

  • Always ensure that the floor support bracket is installed correctly, locked at the proper length, and anchored securely against the floor pan.
  • When the child seat frame supports the weight of the child, the support leg must never remain suspended in the air nor rest on top of loose objects. Always verify that the base of the child seat rests flat and firmly against the upholstery of the vehicle seat. The extending support leg must never push upward so hard that it lifts the child seat base off the surface of the car seat.
