Use exclusively child safety seats that carry official regulatory approval and match your child's physical dimensions.

These approved seats comply strictly with ECE-R44 or ECE-R129 manufacturing standards. The acronym ECE-R stands for Regulation established by the Economic Commission for Europe.

Child seats by weight group as per ECE-R44 and height as per ECE-R129

Approved child safety seats are categorized into 5 distinct groups:

Child height as per ECE-R129

Child safety seats that have undergone rigorous testing and approval under ECE R44 or ECE-R129 regulations feature official test marks printed directly on the seat structure (consisting of the letter E enclosed inside a circle with the official test number displayed beneath it).

Always strictly follow the manufacturer's handling instructions and adhere to local statutory requirements when installing and using child restraint systems.

We advise keeping the manufacturer's Child Seat Instruction Manual bundled together with your car's main owner's documentation.

SEAT recommends equipping your Seat Leon with certified child seats chosen from the Original Accessories Catalogue. These child seats are engineered and crash-tested specifically for integration in our vehicles. You can identify the most suitable child seat model for your child's age group and stature by consulting your authorized dealer.

Child seats by approval category

Child restraint systems are classified into distinct approval categories: universal, semi-universal, and vehicle-specific (all governed under the ECE-R44 standard) or i-Size (governed under the modern ECE-R129 standard).

  • Universal: child seats holding universal approval can be installed across all vehicle makes and models without needing to consult a specific vehicle model compatibility list. For universal ISOFIX approval, the child seat must also be equipped with an upper Top Tether strap.
  • Semi-universal: semi-universal approval requires additional mechanical locking safety devices that demand rigorous specialized testing beyond standard universal criteria.

Child seats featuring semi-universal approval are always supplied with a specific manufacturer's list of approved vehicle models where they are authorized for installation.

  • Vehicle-specific: vehicle-specific approval mandates separate dynamic crash testing of the child seat for each individual vehicle model. Child seats with this classification include a dedicated list of compatible vehicle models in their documentation.
  • i-Size: child seats carrying i-Size approval must fulfill strict performance criteria prescribed in the ECE-R129 standard concerning physical dimensions, ease of installation, and side-impact safety. Child seat manufacturers can confirm which specific i-Size models are fully compatible with your Seat Leon.
