Seat Leon >> Take special care with...

Headlights/tail lights

  • Never wipe or clean the headlight assemblies or tail lights using a dry cloth, paper towel, or dry sponge. Dry wiping rubs surface grit directly into the plastic lens, causing micro-scratches and dulling the optics.
  • Do not apply chemical cleaning products or glass cleaners that contain alcohol or solvents. Alcohol degrades the protective polycarbonate coating, leading to stress micro-cracks and surface crazing!

Wheels

  • Do not use abrasive compound polishes, paint wax, or harsh acid-based cleaners on alloy or painted wheel rims.
  • If the protective clearcoat or paint finish on a rim becomes chipped or damaged by road gravel, stone impacts, or curb scratches, have the damage repaired immediately to prevent sub-surface aluminum corrosion.

Camera lenses

  • Never pour warm or hot water over frozen driver assistance camera lenses to melt ice or snow. The sudden thermal shock can crack the optical glass lens elements!
  • To clean camera lenses, avoid using abrasive sponges or cleaning agents containing alcohol or strong solvents. Using harsh chemicals creates a severe risk of scratching or permanently clouding the lens covers!

Radar sensors

  • Avoid aiming high-pressure water jets directly at the front or rear radar sensors integrated into the bumpers during vehicle washing.
  • If bumper respraying is ever required, paint the bumper covers strictly with SEAT-approved paint specifications and coat thickness to avoid interfering with radar signal transmission.

Windows

  • Clear accumulated snow and ice from windows and side rearview mirrors using a smooth plastic ice scraper only. To prevent fine scratching from trapped dirt particles, push the scraper steadily in one direction rather than dragging it back and forth across the glass surface.
  • Never pour warm or hot water onto frozen windows or exterior rearview mirrors to speed up defrosting. Extreme temperature differentials create an immediate risk of cracking or shattering the glass!
  • To protect the fine heating element grid printed on the rear window of your Seat Leon, do not stick adhesive decals or film stickers directly over the heating lines.

Covers/trims

  • Do not treat matte exterior plastic trim panels, window surrounds, or decorative covers with harsh solvent-based cleaners or aggressive chrome polishes.

Paint

  • Ensure the bodywork of your Seat Leon is thoroughly washed and completely free from road dust, grit, and surface dirt before applying wax, sealant, or protective care products. Applying wax over unwashed paint grinds surface dirt into the clearcoat, causing severe swirl marks and scratches!
  • Never apply paint wax, liquid polishes, or ceramic care products while the vehicle panels are hot or exposed to direct, scorching sunlight. Applying products on hot metal risks baking the chemical compounds onto the finish, permanently staining the paint job!
  • Environmental fallout, industrial fallout, or surface rust spots must never be scrubbed off using aggressive mechanical friction. Scrubbing dry fallout drags sharp metallic particles across the clearcoat, creating a risk of deep paint scratches!
  • Rinse away spilled sunscreen, body lotions, or cosmetic products from painted surfaces immediately. Chemical compounds in sun creams penetrate clearcoats quickly, risking permanent discoloration of the paint job!

Displays/instrument cluster

  • The digital instrument cluster display, central infotainment screen, and surrounding trim bezels must never be cleaned dry. Wiping dry displays rubs dust across delicate screens, creating a high risk of permanent scratches!
  • Ensure the instrument cluster screen and infotainment display are switched off and cooled down to room temperature before starting any interior cleaning.
  • Apply liquid cleaners to a microfiber towel first rather than spraying screens directly; make sure no excess liquid seeps into the seams between the display screen and surrounding dashboard trim, as moisture ingress creates a risk of electrical damage!

Control panels

  • When wiping down the central console, steering wheel controls, or dash buttons, ensure no liquids or moisture seep into switch seams or control panels. Moisture entry poses a severe risk of short-circuit damage to interior electronics!

Seat belts

  • Do not unbolt or remove the seat belt assemblies from the vehicle body to clean the webbing.
  • Seat belt straps and latch hardware must never be cleaned with aggressive chemical detergents, nor allowed to contact corrosive cleaning liquids, solvents, or sharp tools. Chemical exposure degrades synthetic fibers, compromising structural tensile strength and creating a risk of tearing the fabric during an impact!
  • If you discover any fraying, cuts, or mechanical binding along the belt webbing, mounting brackets, inertia reel retractor, or latch buckle on your Seat Leon, visit a specialized workshop immediately to have the entire seat belt assembly replaced.

Fabrics/artificial leather/microfibre

  • Do not treat synthetic leather, microfibre, or suede-like materials with genuine leather cleaners, solvent-based stain removers, wax polish, shoe polish, or harsh chemical detergents.
  • If an upholstery stain proves difficult to lift using mild soap solutions, take your Seat Leon to a specialized detailing workshop for professional extraction. Having experts clean stubborn spots prevents fabric water-spotting and permanent fiber damage.
  • Do not use high-temperature steam cleaners, stiff-bristled brushes, or abrasive scouring sponges to scrub interior upholstery.
  • Never switch on the electric seat heating to accelerate drying of wet upholstery seats. Heating damp foam can warp internal heating grids and discolour fabric covers.
  • Mind sharp hardware on clothing—such as exposed metal zips, brass rivets, or heavy belt buckles—which can snag, tear, or scratch delicate seating surfaces.
  • Ensure open Velcro fasteners on jacket cuffs or trousers are kept closed. Exposed hook-and-loop strips grab microfibre fabric weaves and pull loops out of the seat upholstery.

Natural leather

  • Never apply aggressive chemical solvents, wax polishes, shoe creams, or harsh spot removers to genuine natural leather hides.
  • Exercise care with sharp clothing fastenings like metal zips, jeans rivets, or metal belt buckles, which easily gouge and scratch soft leather seat bolsters.
  • Do not use steam cleaning tools, coarse scrubbing brushes, or abrasive pads when cleaning leather surfaces.
  • Never activate seat heating units to dry out wet leather seats, as rapid heating causes natural hide to shrink, crack, and harden.
  • Avoid leaving natural leather upholstery exposed to intense direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent UV fading and premature drying. If your Seat Leon is parked outdoors in bright sunlight for prolonged periods, cover the leather seats or place a sunshade behind the windscreen.

WARNING Do not apply water-repellent or hydrophobic glass coatings to the front windscreen of your Seat Leon. Under challenging driving conditions—such as humid weather, night driving, or when driving directly into low morning or evening sun—these coatings create a hazy film across the glass that severely impairs driver visibility. This creates a serious accident hazard! Additionally, water-repellent chemical treatments often cause windscreen wiper blades to chatter, judder, and squeak loudly across the glass surface.

Note

  • Splattered insect remains and organic bug residue can be washed off far more easily if the front bumper and paintwork have been previously treated with a high-quality protective wax or paint sealant.
  • Carrying out regular, seasonal exterior car care treatments establishes a protective barrier that helps prevent stubborn environmental rust and industrial fallout from bonding to the bodywork.

Taking your vehicle out of service

If you plan to leave your Seat Leon stationary and unused for an extended period of several months, contact a qualified specialized workshop for professional advice. Technicians can guide you through essential storage procedures, such as applying long-term anti-corrosion protection, adjusting tyre pressures, performing pre-storage inspection checks, and establishing proper vehicle storage conditions.

Be sure to also review and follow all specific technical guidelines regarding 12-volt battery care and maintenance prior to long-term vehicle layup.
