Seat Leon >> eCall emergency call service, required by law

SEAT Leon (4th Generation, KL; 2020+) Owner’s Manual / Safety / In case of emergency / eCall emergency call service, required by law

Depending on vehicle specification and market requirements, your vehicle may be fitted with a legally mandated emergency call system. In many countries, this free public eCall service is enabled by default to ensure immediate emergency assistance.

The dedicated control panel for this system is conveniently integrated into the overhead roof console ››› Fig. 49.

Through this automated emergency call infrastructure, essential emergency response services can be dispatched without delay during critical road situations.

Once triggered, a direct voice connection is established with the nearest public rescue coordination center. The emergency response dispatcher communicates in the primary language of the country where the vehicle is currently located. Simultaneously, essential data required by law is transmitted automatically to the public rescue agency, including the precise geographical coordinates of your Seat Leon.

The telematics connection relies on a specialized factory-installed telematics control unit. Additional hardware components—including a dedicated emergency microphone, an independent cabin loudspeaker, and a backup battery operating separately from the main 12-volt vehicle electrical system—ensure full functionality even after severe crash damage.

Activating an emergency call manually

1. Gently press the protective flip cover Protective flip cover icon for the eCall emergency button in the Seat Leon to release and open it ››› Fig. 49.

2. Press and hold down the red emergency call button for several seconds ››› Fig. 50 1.

The manual emergency call sequence initiates immediately, establishing a direct voice connection with the local emergency service dispatcher.

If you press the emergency call button by mistake, cancel the outgoing call sequence right away:

1. Press and hold the emergency call button again until the system control LED stops flashing red and stays solid green.

Note Press the emergency call button ››› Fig. 50 strictly during genuine vehicle emergencies, collisions, or severe medical situations.

Automatic activation of an emergency call

The automatic emergency call feature functions only when the vehicle ignition is switched on.

A direct voice and telemetry connection to the public rescue coordination center is established automatically under the following critical circumstances:

  • Immediately after any airbag deploys during a collision.
  • Immediately following the activation of pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioners.
  • Depending on equipment, following a critical intervention by the Emergency Assist system due to detected driver inactivity.

Once an automated emergency call sequence has been triggered by crash sensors, it cannot be canceled or interrupted by pressing the emergency call button ››› Fig. 50.

If dispatchers at the public emergency control center receive no verbal response to their inquiries, emergency rescue units are dispatched to the transmitted vehicle coordinates automatically.
