Seat Leon >> Stabilisation of the towing vehicle and trailer combination
The electronic stabilisation of the combined towing vehicle and trailer train is an advanced supplementary function integrated into your Seat Leon's Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system architecture.
If the onboard sensors detect that an attached trailer has begun to weave, oscillate, or sway dangerously, the system automatically intervenes with targeted braking to stabilize the trailer and restore vehicle control.
Vehicle and trailer combination stabilisation requirements
- The vehicle is either factory-equipped with an original towing bracket or has been properly retrofitted with a fully compatible towing bracket system.
- The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are fully active and functioning normally. Neither control warning lamp
nor
is illuminated on the instrument cluster display. - The trailer is correctly and securely connected to the towing vehicle via the multi-pole trailer electrical power socket.
- Your Seat Leon is traveling at a speed exceeding approximately 60 km/h (approx. 37 mph).
- The maximum technically permissible vertical load limit on the tow ball coupling device is not being exceeded.
- The trailer features a rigid, inflexible drawbar structure.
- If the trailer is equipped with brakes, it must utilize a standard mechanical overrun brake system.
WARNING The enhanced safety margins provided by the electronic trailer stabilization system must never tempt you to take unnecessary driving risks that could compromise your safety or the safety of other road users.
- Always adapt your driving speed and driving style at all times to suit prevailing visibility, weather conditions, road surface quality, and traffic density.
- Accelerate with extreme caution and sensitivity when driving on slippery, icy, or wet road surfaces.
- Whenever you are actively adjusting vehicle settings or menus, remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.
WARNING The electronic stability control system for the vehicle and trailer combination may not correctly detect or respond to all complex driving conditions or unusual loads.
- The electronic stability system cannot always reliably detect very light or small trailers, meaning it may fail to stabilize them correctly during a sway event.
- When driving on low-grip surfaces or loose terrain, an unstable trailer can actually interfere with the vehicle's stability control calculations.
- Trailers with an abnormally high center of gravity can tip over and roll completely before the vehicle sensors even register weaving.
- If no physical trailer is attached, but an external accessory connector or plug is left connected to the power socket (such as when using a bicycle rack with integrated lighting), repeated unintended automatic braking interventions may occur under extreme driving conditions.
