Fastening rings

Seat Leon luggage compartment floor heavy-duty lashing fastening rings
Fig. 194 In the luggage compartment: fastening rings.

Heavy-duty fastening rings ››› Fig. 194 are located at both the front and rear corners of the luggage compartment floor to anchor loose cargo, suitcases, and equipment using appropriate tie-down belts, lashing straps, or securing cords inside your Seat Leon.

WARNING Using damaged, frayed, or undersized retaining straps and securing cords can cause them to snap unexpectedly under heavy loads during hard braking or a collision, allowing cargo to fly through the passenger cabin and cause severe or fatal injuries.

  • Always use high-strength retaining belts, ratchet straps, or cargo nets that are in sound condition and rated for load securing.
  • Tighten retaining belts and straps in a diagonal cross layout over the cargo placed on the luggage floor, anchoring them securely to the floor fastening rings.
  • Never exceed the maximum rated tensile load capacity of the floor fastening rings when securing heavy cargo.
  • Ensure that the upper edge of flat or stacked cargo sits higher than the fastening rings so that the securing straps exert downward tension.
  • Depending on vehicle equipment, always observe any instructional labels or diagrams in the luggage area detailing proper load positioning.
  • Never use the floor luggage fastening rings to anchor child safety seats or child restraint systems.

Note

  • The maximum permissible tensile load rating for each cargo fastening ring is approximately 3.5 kN (350 kgf).
  • Commercial tie-down straps, cargo nets, and approved load securing systems matched to your Seat Leon can be obtained from authorized specialized dealerships; SEAT recommends consulting an authorized SEAT dealer.

The luggage compartment's net bag prevents loose items and light luggage from shifting around while driving. The net bag features an integrated zipper compartment, making it ideal for storing smaller items safely.

The net bag can be hooked into the luggage compartment in different configurations depending on your cargo needs.

Hooking the net bag into the luggage compartment floor

If necessary, unfold the front anchorage eyes before attempting to attach the net.

  • Secure the net's corner hooks directly to the floor fastening rings ››› Fig. 195 1 and 2. Ensure that the zippered pocket opening is facing upward for easy access.

Hook the net bag next to the load threshold

  • Attach the short net hooks to the lower fastening rings near the sill ››› Fig. 196 1, keeping the zipper facing upward.
  • Secure the upper net straps into the bag hooks 2 located on the side trim.

Removing the net bag

When properly installed, the elastic net bag remains tightly stretched under tension.

  • Carefully unhook the net fasteners from the luggage compartment rings.
  • Fold and store the net bag safely inside the trunk storage area.

WARNING Securing the elastic net bag requires stretching it across the luggage floor fastening rings, keeping it under high tension. If the net hooks are attached or unhooked carelessly, they can slip and cause injuries.

  • Always hold and secure the net hooks firmly so that they do not snap loose suddenly from the floor rings during attachment or removal.
  • Keep your face and eyes at a safe distance whenever hooking or unhooking the tensioned net to protect against accidental recoil.
  • Follow the recommended sequence when attaching the net hooks. Disconnecting a hook abruptly while under tension can result in sudden movement and injury.

Convenient fold-out or fixed bag hooks may be located on both side walls of the luggage compartment ››› Fig. 197.

These bag hooks are designed specifically to hold lightweight shopping bags and light carry items upright.

WARNING Never use the bag hooks to suspend heavy suitcases, toolkits, or bulky objects. Under hard braking or during a collision, heavy loads will snap the plastic hooks and become dangerous projectiles.

Behind the central rear armrest, your Seat Leon features a load-through trapdoor designed for carrying long items, such as skis or snowboards, inside the cabin without folding down the main rear seat backrests.

Opening the trapdoor

  • Lower the rear center armrest fully.
  • Pull the release latch in the direction of the arrow and fold the hatch cover ››› Fig. 199 1 forward and downward.
  • Open the rear tailgate.
  • Slide long items carefully through the hatch opening from inside the luggage compartment.
  • Lash down and secure the transported objects using the rear center seat belt or suitable straps.
  • Close the tailgate securely.

Closing the trapdoor

  • Swing the trapdoor cover back up until it firmly clicks into place. The red safety indicator on the trunk side of the latch must no longer be visible once correctly locked.
  • Close the tailgate.
  • Raise the center armrest back into its upright position if desired.

WARNING Placing objects or long items within the deployment path of the central airbag can obstruct its operation and cause severe injuries during an accident.

  • Ensure no cargo or accessories encroach on the central airbag deployment zone between the front seats.

WARNING

  • When the center armrest is lowered, no passenger may occupy the center seating position on the rear bench.
  • Never open, close, or adjust the load-through hatch while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Use care when opening or closing the hatch cover to avoid pinching your fingers or snagging the center seat belt webbing.

Note The load-through hatch can also be unlatched directly from inside the trunk. To do this, press the release lever downward in the direction of the arrow and push the cover panel upward ››› Fig. 200.
