Seat Leon >> Positioning the luggage and cargo

General information

Placing luggage inside the vehicle safely

It is possible to carry cargo, equipment, and personal luggage inside the vehicle, towing a trailer, or secured on the roof. When transporting any load in your Seat Leon, please ensure you observe all applicable local legal provisions and road safety regulations.

  • Distribute the payload weight across the interior of the vehicle as evenly and balanced as possible.
  • Always place luggage, heavy bags, and bulky objects as far forward as possible against the rear seat backrest inside the luggage compartment.
  • Take into account the maximum authorized axle loads as well as the maximum overall gross vehicle weight rating.
  • Secure cargo to the integrated fastening rings located in the luggage compartment using appropriate lashing straps, tie-down belts, or securing chains.
  • Always stow small, loose objects safely in closed storage compartments to prevent them from sliding.
  • In vehicles equipped with dynamic headlight range control, the headlight projection angle adapts automatically to compensate for load distribution.
  • Adjust cold tire pressures to match the increased vehicle payload according to the specifications on the tire pressure sticker.
  • In vehicles equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system, re-initialize and store the new load status in the system menu after adjusting tire pressures.

WARNING Loose or unsecured items in the passenger compartment can cause severe injury during sudden braking, sharp evasive maneuvers, or in a collision. This risk is significantly increased if an inflating airbag impacts loose items, throwing them violently across the cabin. Please observe the following precautions to minimize the risk of injury:

  • Place all cargo, luggage, and personal items inside the vehicle safely and securely.
  • Properly secure all objects, regardless of whether they are small accessories or large items.
  • Position items inside the cabin in such a way that they can never move into active airbag deployment zones while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Keep all storage compartments, glove boxes, and armrest bins closed and latched at all times while driving.
  • Arrange cargo so that it never forces any occupant of the vehicle to adopt an incorrect or compromised seating position.
  • When transporting long or bulky objects that occupy a passenger seat area, never permit anyone to sit in that seat.
  • Never leave hard, sharp, or heavy objects loose in open storage trays, on the rear parcel shelf, or on top of the dashboard.
  • Remove hard, heavy, or sharp items from clothing pockets and loose interior bags before driving, and store them safely.

WARNING Transporting heavy loads alters vehicle handling dynamics, raises the center of gravity, and extends stopping distances.

Heavy objects that are improperly loaded or unsecured can cause a sudden loss of vehicle control, resulting in serious accidents and severe injuries.

  • Never exceed the maximum permitted payload or load ratings of the vehicle.

Both the total payload mass and its distribution throughout the vehicle directly affect steering response, chassis stability, and overall braking efficiency.

  • When carrying heavy cargo, the driving characteristics of your Seat Leon will change due to the shift in the vehicle's center of gravity.
  • Always distribute the cargo load as evenly, low, and horizontally balanced across the floor as possible.
  • Always place heavy items in the luggage compartment directly in front of or over the rear axle, keeping them as low as possible.
  • Unsecured cargo in the luggage compartment can shift unexpectedly during cornering or braking, destabilizing vehicle handling.
  • Adapt your driving speed and style at all times to suit prevailing visibility, weather, road surface quality, and traffic conditions.
  • Accelerate smoothly and with particular caution when carrying heavy cargo.
  • Avoid aggressive braking, sudden steering inputs, and sharp evasive maneuvers.
  • Apply the brakes earlier than usual to account for the increased stopping distance.

NOTICE Heating elements, defroster lines, or antenna grids embedded in the rear window pane can suffer permanent, irreparable damage if hard or sharp cargo comes into contact with the glass.

Note Approved tie-down straps and cargo securing belts designed for the luggage compartment fastening rings are available from authorized SEAT accessory suppliers.
