Seat Leon >> Introduction
The assisted parking system (Park Assist) functions as an advanced extension of ParkPilot, actively aiding the driver in identifying and executing maneuvers into suitable parking spaces from among the following types:
- reverse parking into appropriate perpendicular and parallel spaces,
- forward parking into suitable perpendicular spaces,
- exiting a parking space driving forwards from a parallel spot,
- parking in a suitable space driving forwards at an angle to partially enter the selected parking space, after which the system will centre the vehicle in the parking space,
- completing a reverse parking maneuver into a space where you have already attempted to park manually by partially entering with the rear of your Seat Leon.
In vehicles equipped with the Park Assist system and factory infotainment system, the front, rear, and side surrounding areas are visually represented, clearly displaying the position of obstacles relative to the car.
The assisted parking system is subject to specific physical boundaries inherent to automated technology, meaning its operation requires continuous vigilance and careful oversight by the driver.
WARNING The technology utilized in the park assist system involves a series of limitations inherent to the system itself and the physics of ultrasonic sensors. The convenience of Park Assist should never induce you to take risks that compromise road safety. The system is never a replacement for complete driver awareness.
- Any unintended or accidental movement of the vehicle during assisted maneuvering could result in serious personal injury.
- Always adapt your vehicle speed and overall driving style to suit prevailing visibility, weather conditions, surface quality, and traffic flow.
- Certain surfaces of objects and specialized garment fabrics fail to reflect ultrasonic sensor signals properly.
Consequently, the system cannot detect, or accurately measure the distance to, these specific objects or individuals wearing such sound-absorbing clothing.
- Ultrasonic sensor signals can be disrupted or muffled by intense external sound sources, which under certain circumstances may prevent the system from detecting nearby pedestrians or objects.
- The ultrasonic sensors have physical blind spots in which low obstacles, narrow structures, and people may remain undetected.
- Constantly monitor the entire perimeter around your Seat Leon, as ultrasonic sensors cannot detect small children, animals, or low-profile objects in every driving scenario.
WARNING Rapid automated movements of the steering wheel while parking or exiting a parking space with Park Assist can cause unexpected physical injury if hands are caught.
- Do not touch or grab the steering wheel during automated parking or unparking maneuvers until the system explicitly prompts you to do so on the display. Reaching for or holding the wheel manually overrides and deactivates the system, immediately cancelling the parking procedure.
NOTICE
- Under specific environmental conditions, the ultrasonic sensors might fail to detect narrow or elevated obstacles such as trailer hitches, horizontal bars, wire fences, slender posts, or thin trees, as well as an open (or currently opening) rear boot lid, which could lead to physical damage to the vehicle.
- Retrofitting aftermarket accessories to your Seat Leon, such as a rear-mounted bicycle rack or auxiliary cargo carrier, can interfere with the operational field of the Park Assist sensors and result in bumper or accessory damage during automated maneuvering.
- The Park Assist system uses previously parked vehicles, roadside kerbs, and surrounding fixed objects as geometric references.
Ensure that the tyres and alloy wheels are not scraped or damaged against high kerbs while parking. If necessary, manually override and interrupt the automated parking manoeuvre in time to avoid damaging the running gear or wheels.
- The ultrasonic sensors mounted in the front and rear bumpers may become misaligned, pushed inward, or structurally damaged during minor parking impacts or light collisions.
- When using high-pressure jet washers or steam cleaning equipment on the ultrasonic sensors, do not spray them directly for extended periods; apply the pressure washer only very briefly and maintain a minimum working clearance of more than 10 cm.
- A front registration plate or license plate holder with physical dimensions exceeding the factory recess, or a plate that is bent, curved, or warped, can cause the following operational issues:
- False distance detections or ghost warnings.
- Complete loss of visibility for adjacent sensor units.
- Premature cancellation of an in-progress parking manoeuvre or improper vehicle alignment in the space.
- If an individual ultrasonic sensor suffers physical or electrical damage, the entire zone corresponding to that sensor group (front or rear bumper) is automatically disabled and cannot be reactivated until the underlying defect is repaired.
However, you can continue using the operational sensors on the opposite bumper as normal. If a persistent system fault occurs in your Seat Leon, consult a specialized workshop for diagnosis. SEAT recommends visiting an authorized SEAT dealership for technical assistance.
Note
- To guarantee reliable system operation, keep all ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear bumpers clean, clear of road grime, snow, and ice, and never cover them with decorative stickers or accessories.
- External acoustic noise sources—such as rough asphalt surfaces, cobbles, heavy rain, or noisy machinery on adjacent vehicles—can trigger false ultrasound echoes and cause Park Assist or ParkPilot to issue erroneous alerts. The immediate presence of large metallic structures can also affect spatial measurements during the manoeuvre.
- To become thoroughly familiar with system behavior and automated steering responses on your Seat Leon, SEAT recommends practicing operating the Park Assist system in a quiet area without heavy traffic or inside an open, empty car park.
