Seat Leon >> General information on parking systems
Automatic brake operation
The automatic braking feature integrated into the parking systems of your Seat Leon is engineered to reduce the danger of a collision when an unexpected obstacle is detected in the travel path during a parking manoeuvre.
Braking functions
Depending on your vehicle's specific equipment package, the following automated braking systems may be available:
- Park assist plus manoeuvre braking function.
- Rear cross traffic alert emergency brake function.
- Park assist emergency brake function.
Infotainment system lamps
White lamp: system activated, the system automatically applies the brakes when it detects an obstacle directly in the vehicle's path.
Coloured lamp: system deactivated, the system will not apply the brakes when an obstacle is detected, even though the ultrasonic sensors still register it.
Requirements
- The vehicle is moving at low speeds between approximately 3 km/h and 8 km/h while executing a manoeuvre.
- A parking assist system is actively switched on.
Note that the brakes are not automatically operated when park assist is engaged automatically while moving forward in normal traffic.
What happens in the event of automatic braking?
If an obstacle is detected in your Seat Leon's path, the system brakes the vehicle sharply to a complete standstill and holds it stationary for approximately 2 seconds. Press the foot brake pedal immediately to maintain control!
Activate
- Automatic brake operation is activated automatically as soon as the driver switches on a parking assist system.
Deactivating
- The automatic brake operation function deactivates whenever the active park assist system is switched off manually or automatically.
- OR: to temporarily deactivate the manoeuvre braking function during a specific manoeuvre, press the function button
on the park assist infotainment screen and adjust the setting.
WARNING Never allow the convenience of automatic braking operations in park assist systems to tempt you into taking safety risks. Under certain environmental or technical situations, automatic braking interventions may only function in a limited capacity or fail to engage altogether. Collisions with obstacles can cause serious personal injury and costly vehicle damage.
The automated system is never a substitute for direct driver awareness and active control.
- Pay close attention to your surroundings and never rely solely on automated parking assist systems.
- Always remain fully prepared to apply the brakes and take manual control of the steering wheel.
- Do not attempt risky parking manoeuvres that compromise vehicle safety.
- Always act promptly in accordance with all system warnings and driving instructions provided by the parking features.
Note
- Switch off the parking system manually if the automatic brakes trigger repeatedly or excessively, such as when driving off-road or through tall grass.
- After the park assist manoeuvre braking function has actively stopped the vehicle, it automatically deactivates for the next 5 metres of travel in the same direction, becoming active again only after you change gear or switch gear selector positions.
Troubleshooting
The parking system behaves differently than expected
Unexpected behavior from the parking assistance functions can stem from several underlying causes:
- The basic operating requirements of the system are not fully met.
- The ultrasonic sensors or camera lenses are covered with dirt, mud, road grime, or ice.
- The camera lens surface is smudged, preventing a clear video feed on the display.
- External high-frequency noise sources—such as pneumatic jackhammers, heavy machinery, or driving over cobblestone surfaces—interfere with the ultrasonic signals.
- Your Seat Leon has suffered localized damage near a sensor or camera mount, such as following a minor parking impact.
- The detection field of a sensor or the viewing angle of a camera is physically blocked by an accessory, such as a rear bike rack or towbar attachment.
- Unapproved paint touch-ups or structural alterations have been made near sensor or camera locations, such as custom bumper work or suspension geometry modifications.
Always review and follow any diagnostic alert messages displayed on the central infotainment system screen.
Sensor or camera without visibility, or the parking system has been switched off
If an individual sensor experiences a technical failure or persistent obstruction, that specific sensor zone is permanently disabled. The affected coverage area may be displayed on the infotainment screen with a
symbol alongside a greyed-out graphic segment. Where necessary, the parking system automatically switches off the affected zone completely.
If park assist is not functioning correctly, a continuous acoustic warning signal will sound for several seconds upon activation. Where applicable, a clear diagnostic message will also be shown on the instrument cluster display screen.
- Check whether any of the potential causes outlined above are affecting the vehicle's sensors or cameras.
- Once the physical obstruction or underlying issue has been resolved, the parking system can be re-engaged.
- If the functional fault persists, consult an authorized specialized workshop for professional diagnosis.
