Seat Leon >> Emergency Assist
How it works
The Emergency Assist function integrated into your Seat Leon is designed to detect whether the driver has become inactive or unresponsive, allowing the vehicle to automatically maintain its position within the lane and bring the car to a controlled, complete stop if necessary.
Depending on your vehicle's specific equipment package, the system can even perform an assisted lane change, guiding your Seat Leon smoothly across into an adjacent lane and bringing it to a halt on the hard shoulder or roadside, taking surrounding traffic conditions, current vehicle speed, and road classification into account.
Through these automated interventions, the system can actively help prevent a serious collision or significantly reduce the severity of an unavoidable accident.
Emergency Assist shares its underlying sensor architecture with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Assist, and Side Assist. For this reason, always read all technical instructions regarding ACC, Lane Assist, and Side Assist carefully, keeping all system limitations and operational warnings detailed in those chapters firmly in mind.
Emergency Assist stands ready and available automatically once the vehicle ignition has been switched on, and it becomes fully active as soon as the following operational conditions are met:
- Travel Assist or Lane Assist is actively switched on.
- The system has successfully detected at least one clear lane boundary line to either the left or right of the vehicle.
Note If an internal fault or sensor obstruction occurs in Emergency Assist, the system may switch itself off automatically for safety.
Note If Lane Assist is unavailable or deactivated due to an optical obstruction, Emergency Assist is likewise rendered unavailable.
Driver intervention prompt
If Emergency Assist detects that the driver is inactive and failing to provide steering or pedal input, it prompts the driver to take over vehicle control through audible warning tones accompanied by a brief, gentle application of the service brakes. Simultaneously, a prominent warning message appears on the digital instrument cluster display, and the media volume of the central infotainment system is automatically lowered.
Depending on the specific safety equipment fitted to your Seat Leon, the driver's seat belt is also electrically pretensioned at the same time.
System intervention
If the driver fails to respond to these preliminary alerts, the full Emergency Assist system intervention is triggered. The corresponding status control lamp illuminates on the digital instrument cluster display screen:
The system is actively regulating vehicle control, and lane guidance is engaged.
The system is actively regulating, with passive lane guidance.
You can override and cancel the automated adjustment intervention at any moment by exerting manual force on the steering wheel, pressing the accelerator pedal to accelerate past the target speed, or applying the service brakes.
While Emergency Assist is executing an emergency stop manoeuvre, surrounding road users are warned through the following automated measures:
- The vehicle's hazard warning lights are switched on shortly after intervention begins.
- The horn sounds rhythmically (depending on vehicle speed).
- If the system executes an assisted lane change manoeuvre, the directional turn signal on that respective side is automatically activated.
The following automated actions take place as soon as your Seat Leon comes to a complete standstill during an Emergency Assist intervention:
- The electronic parking brake is automatically applied and the automatic transmission gear selector engages position P.
- All vehicle doors are unlocked automatically to facilitate emergency access.
- The vehicle interior lighting illuminates to provide clear visibility inside the cabin.
- Depending on your vehicle's equipment level and connectivity features, an emergency call (eCall) is triggered to contact emergency services.
WARNING The smart technology powering Emergency Assist cannot overcome the limits imposed by the unyielding laws of physics; it operates exclusively within established system boundaries. The driver remains fully responsible for safely controlling the vehicle at all times.
- Always adapt your travel speed and safety following distance to the vehicle ahead to suit prevailing visibility, weather conditions, road surface quality, and traffic flow.
- Emergency Assist cannot guarantee that accidents or severe injuries will be prevented in every critical scenario.
- If the front radar sensor or windscreen camera are obstructed, dirty, misaligned, or physically damaged, the system may apply the brakes unexpectedly or intervene inappropriately in steering.
- Emergency Assist does not detect or react to pedestrians, animals, or vehicles crossing your path laterally, nor to vehicles approaching head-on in your lane.
WARNING If Emergency Assist intervenes at an inappropriate moment, serious accidents and severe injuries may occur.
- If your Seat Leon behaves differently than expected, override and cancel the intervention of Emergency Assist immediately by accelerating past the system threshold, braking firmly, or turning the steering wheel manually.
- Do not engage Travel Assist or Lane Assist while a fault is active.
Have the system thoroughly inspected by an authorized specialized workshop.
Troubleshooting
Emergency Assist not available
The warning control lamp illuminates in yellow, accompanied by a corresponding diagnostic message on the digital instrument cluster display screen.
- An internal fault or electronic defect has been registered by the control unit. Turn the vehicle's drive system completely off and restart it after a brief moment.
- If the functional problem persists, manually switch off Emergency Assist in the settings menu and visit an authorized specialized workshop for service.
