Seat Leon >> Usage instructions

The auxiliary heater exhaust system located beneath your Seat Leon must be kept clear of snow, mud, leaves, and other potential obstructions at all times. The exhaust fumes must be able to escape freely into the atmosphere without any restriction. The emissions generated by the auxiliary heater are safely vented through an exhaust pipe fitted securely underneath the vehicle.

When heating the cabin of your Seat Leon, depending on the current outside temperature, the warm airflow is first directed strategically at the windscreen to clear condensation or frost, and then redirected to the rest of the passenger compartment through the adjustable air vents. Manually adjusting the vents—such as pointing them specifically towards the side windows—can directly affect the overall air distribution and cabin comfort.

When the auxiliary heater is not switched on

  • The auxiliary heater requires roughly the same amount of electrical power as the dipped beam headlights. If the 12-volt battery charge drops too low, the auxiliary heater system will switch itself off automatically and cannot be restarted until the battery regains sufficient charge. This clever safeguard ensures you avoid starting or power issues when trying to start the engine of your Seat Leon.
  • The auxiliary heater must be activated manually every time you prepare to set off on a journey. Similarly, any scheduled departure time needs to be reactivated each time to ensure your vehicle is warm and ready when you are.
  • The control lamp Seat Leon fuel level indicator warning light on the instrument cluster (fuel level indicator) lights up to signal low fuel conditions or operational status.

Note

  • Various operational noises will be heard while the auxiliary heater is running and cycling through its heating phases, which is entirely normal.
  • When the outside humidity is high and the ambient temperature is low, residual condensation from the vehicle's heating and fresh air system may evaporate when the auxiliary heater is turned on. In such cases, harmless steam may come out from under the front or middle of the vehicle. This does not indicate a fault or mechanical issue with your Seat Leon.
  • If the vehicle is parked at an angle—such as on a steep slope—the operation of the auxiliary heater may be restricted or temporarily disabled if the fuel tank level is critically low (hovering just above the reserve level).
  • If the auxiliary heater is used multiple times for extended periods while the car is stationary, the 12-volt battery will gradually lose its charge. To recharge the battery properly, the vehicle must be driven for a few kilometres from time to time. As a helpful rule of thumb: the driving duration should last approximately as long as the auxiliary heater was switched on.
  • At cold ambient temperatures below +5 ºC (+41 ºF), the auxiliary heater may switch itself on automatically to assist with engine warmup when the ignition is turned on.

The auxiliary heater is switched off again automatically after a predetermined period of time to protect the vehicle's electrical systems.
