Seat Leon >> Mirrors
General safety instructions
The exterior and interior rearview mirrors of your Seat Leon allow the driver to observe trailing traffic approaching from behind and adapt his or her driving behavior accordingly.
For safe driving conditions, it is essential for the driver to adjust both exterior mirrors and the interior mirror correctly before setting off on any journey.
When looking through the exterior mirrors and the interior mirror, it is physically impossible to cover the entire area directly behind and to the blind sides of the vehicle.
These surrounding zones outside the optical field of view are known as blind spots. Other road users, motorcycles, or hidden objects may be lurking within these blind spots.
WARNING Adjusting the exterior rearview mirrors and interior mirror while the vehicle is in motion can severely distract the driver.
This distraction could easily cause accidents and lead to serious injuries.
- Only adjust the exterior mirrors and interior rearview mirror when your Seat Leon is completely stationary.
- When parking, changing highway lanes, overtaking, or executing turns, always keep a close visual watch on your surroundings, as other road users or obstacles may be positioned within your blind spots.
- Always verify that the mirrors are adjusted correctly and that clear rear visibility is not restricted or reduced by ice, snow, condensation fogging, or other obstructions.
WARNING Failing to accurately estimate the actual distance to vehicles driving behind you can lead to serious collisions and personal injuries.
- Curved (convex or aspherical) glass mirrors increase the overall field of view, but objects reflected in them appear smaller and deceptively further away than they actually are.
- Curved mirrors do not allow you to precisely calculate the true distance to trailing vehicles, so relying solely on them when changing lanes could cause serious accidents and severe injuries.
- Whenever possible, use the flat-glass interior mirror to precisely judge the distance to vehicles following behind you or to other objects in your path.
- Always make sure you maintain sufficient and unobstructed visibility to the rear.
WARNING Automatic anti-dazzle dimming mirrors contain a chemical electrolyte fluid which can leak out if the glass is cracked or broken.
- If leaked, this electrolyte fluid can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory organs, particularly in individuals suffering from asthma or other chronic respiratory conditions. Immediately inhale fresh air by stepping out of the vehicle, or open all side doors and windows wide if getting out is not immediately possible.
- If the liquid electrolyte fluid comes into direct contact with your eyes or skin, immediately rinse the affected area thoroughly with copious amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek prompt medical advice.
- If the chemical fluid splashes onto footwear
or clothing, rinse the fabric immediately with
plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
Wash and clean the garments thoroughly before wearing that footwear or clothing again.
- If the electrolyte fluid is swallowed accidentally, immediately rinse out your mouth with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless explicitly advised by a medical doctor. Seek emergency medical attention immediately.
NOTICE Electrolyte fluid can leak out if the automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror glass is broken. This reactive chemical liquid aggressively attacks plastic trim surfaces. Therefore, any spills should be cleaned up as quickly as possible using a damp sponge or similar absorbent cloth.
Interior mirror

- To darken the interior mirror against glaring headlights behind you, push the toggle lever tab upward ››› Fig. 111 (indicated by the arrow).
- To return the mirror glass to its normal daytime position, pull the lever tab back down.
Interior mirror with automatic anti-dazzle function
When the engine ignition is switched on, sensitive optical sensors integrated into the mirror housing continuously measure the intensity of ambient light falling on it from both the front and behind.
The interior mirror then automatically darkens its reflective surface progressively based on these measured light values to prevent glare.
If the light falling onto the optical sensors is blocked or obstructed—for example, by a pulled-down sun visor, passengers, or hanging ornaments—the automatic anti-dazzle function will not operate correctly or may fail to dim.
Similarly, mounting portable navigation screens or dash cameras directly onto the windscreen close to the automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror can scatter light and disrupt sensor operation.
The automatic anti-dazzle dimming function is also temporarily deactivated in specific situations, such as when reverse gear is engaged.
WARNING Stray light shining from the screens of portable navigation devices or aftermarket displays can cause malfunctions in the automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror and may result in dangerous accidents and injuries.
- Abnormal operation of the automatic anti-dazzle dimming feature may result in glare blinding the driver, making it impossible to use the interior mirror to accurately judge the distance to vehicles driving behind your Seat Leon, or to other hazards.
Adjusting the exterior mirrors

Fig. 112 Driver's door detail: exterior mirror
control.
Turn the rotary adjustment control to the corresponding position to operate the door mirrors on your Seat Leon.
By moving the joystick control to the
desired position,
you can adjust the exterior wing mirrors on the left
side (L) and on the right side (R) precisely in the
desired direction.
Depending on the factory equipment
fitted on
the vehicle, the glass surfaces may be heated automatically or manually according
to the prevailing outside temperature to clear ice and misting.
Fold the exterior wing mirrors in towards the body electrically.
Neutral position: the exterior mirror glass cannot be
adjusted and
all motorized positioning functions remain deactivated.
Activating exterior mirror functions
The individual automated exterior mirror convenience functions can be selectively activated and deactivated within the vehicle settings menu on the central infotainment touchscreen display.
Note The specific exterior mirror functions are described in detail below. For left-hand drive models of the Seat Leon, position L corresponds strictly to the exterior mirror on the driver's side and position R corresponds to the exterior mirror on the front passenger's side.
Simply apply the exact opposite rule for right-hand drive vehicle variants.
Synchronized regulation of the exterior mirrors
The synchronised mirror adjustment system simultaneously repositions the right-hand passenger exterior mirror whenever the left driver's mirror glass is adjusted.
- Turn the rotary switch control knob to position L.
- Adjust the left-hand exterior mirror glass angle. The right exterior mirror will automatically be adjusted at the same time (synchronised angle alignment).
- If necessary, fine-tune or correct the setting of the right-hand passenger mirror independently: turn the control knob directly to position R.
Folding the exterior mirrors when locking the vehicle
When your Seat Leon is locked or unlocked from the outside using the remote key fob or door handle sensor, the exterior mirrors can fold in or out automatically, depending on installed trim features.
For automatic folding operation upon locking, the driver door rotary knob control must be left resting
in position
,
,
, or
.
If the rotary control knob of the electric exterior mirrors has been intentionally set to the dedicated folded position, the exterior mirrors will remain safely folded inward regardless of door locking states.
Memory function
The driver seat memory buttons can also be utilized to store and recall personalized position settings for both exterior wing mirrors.
Your mirror angle preferences will also be saved automatically under your active online user profile in the connected system.
Saving the passenger exterior mirror settings for reversing
- Switch the engine ignition on.
- On the central infotainment touchscreen, select
> Vehicle
> Exterior > Mirrors. - Select position R on the door mirror control knob.
- Engage reverse gear in the transmission.
- Adjust the front passenger side exterior mirror glass downward so that you can clearly view the kerb edge and lower rear wheel area during parking.
- Disengage reverse gear or shift back into neutral/park.
- The tilted parking position for the passenger side mirror glass is now stored in system memory.
Activating the passenger side exterior mirror settings for reversing
- Turn the driver door exterior mirror control knob to position R.
- Engage reverse gear while the ignition is switched on. The right-hand passenger exterior mirror will tilt automatically down to the saved kerb-view position.
The passenger side exterior mirror automatically returns from its saved reversing position back to normal driving tilt when your Seat Leon begins travelling forward faster than approximately 15 km/h (9 mph), or if the door knob control is turned from position R to any other setting.
WARNING Folding or unfolding the powered exterior mirrors carelessly or without checking surroundings can cause pinching and crushing injuries to bystanders.
- Only fold or unfold the exterior mirrors electronically if you are certain no person or object is standing in the mechanical sweep path of the mirror housing.
- When adjusting or folding the mirror units, be extremely careful not to trap or pinch your fingers between the outer mirror housing and the door frame mount.
NOTICE
- Before driving your Seat Leon into an automatic drive-through car wash, please ensure that both exterior mirrors are folded in completely to prevent severe mechanical damage from washing brushes.
- Electrically folding exterior door mirrors must always be operated electronically via the interior control switch and never forced manually by hand, as pushing them manually can damage the internal motor drive gears.
For the sake of the environment
Do not leave the exterior mirror glass heating function switched on for longer than necessary. Leaving glass heaters running leads to unwanted battery drain and unnecessary energy consumption.
Note If the electrical positioning mechanism should fail due to an electrical malfunction, both exterior mirror glasses can still be adjusted manually by carefully applying gentle thumb pressure against the outer edges of the mirror glass.
