Seat Leon >> Headrest
Introduction
Proper adjustment and removal procedures for the headrests are detailed below. Always verify that all seating positions are correctly set up before starting a journey.
Every seat in your Seat Leon comes fitted with an adjustable headrest. Note that the rear center headrest is specifically contoured for the middle seat position and should not be fitted onto outer seating locations.
Correct adjustment of the headrest
Position the headrest so its top edge aligns flush with the top of your head, keeping it as close to eye level as possible. Maintain the back of your head in close proximity to the headrest cushion at all times.
Adjusting the headrest for short people
Slide the headrest all the way down to its lowest notch, even if the top of your head sits above the upper cushion edge. A small clearance gap between the headrest base and backrest top is normal in this setting.
Adjusting the headrest for tall people
Extend the headrest upward into its highest notch position.
WARNING Driving with removed or improperly aligned headrests substantially increases the risk of severe or fatal whiplash and spinal injuries during sudden braking or collisions.
- Always ensure all occupied seats have their headrests properly installed and adjusted before driving.
- To minimize neck injury risks, align the top edge of the headrest level with the top of your head, centered close behind your skull.
- Never attempt to adjust headrest height while operating the vehicle.
- Rear passengers must never ride in seats where the headrests are left in their stowed, non-use position.
NOTICE Take care when removing or reinstalling headrests so the support guide rods do not scrape against the headliner fabric, front backrest shells, or interior side trim panels.

Adjusting the height of the headrests
- Firmly grab the sides of the headrest cushion with both
hands and push upwards smoothly to reach the desired height position.
To lower the headrest down, repeat the same hand action while pressing the side release button 1 ››› Fig. 97, ››› Fig. 98 simultaneously.
- Always ensure that the headrest clicks and locks securely into one of the designated height positions before driving.
Removing and fitting the headrests

Removing the front headrests
- Lower the front headrest all the way down if necessary.
- To unlock the mechanism, locate the release button positioned underneath the headrest collar and press it firmly in the direction of the arrow indicator ››› Fig. 99 1.
- Pull and lift the headrest completely out of the backrest guides in the direction of arrow 2.
Fitting the front headrests
- Align both steel guide bars of the headrest in the correct orientation over the corresponding guide sleeves on the top of the backrest and insert them straight down.
- Push the headrest downward steadily until the internal locking mechanism engages with an audible click.
- Adjust the height of the headrest according to the safety instructions concerning the correct ergonomic seating position in your Seat Leon.
Removing the rear headrests
To successfully remove any of the rear headrests, the corresponding split backrest section must first be partially folded forward to gain clearance.
- Unlock and tip the rear backrest section slightly forward.
- Raise the headrest upward to its highest extension position.
- Press release button ››› Fig. 100 1, while simultaneously inserting a flathead screwdriver (maximum 5 mm wide) into the safety release hole 2 to depress the inner catch, then pull out and remove the headrest completely.
- Return the rear backrest to its upright position until it locks properly ››› in Folding down and raising the rear seat backrest.
Fitting the rear headrests
To mount the outer or center rear headrests back into place, the corresponding backrest section must also be partially folded forward for clearance.
- Unlock and tilt the backrest slightly forward.
- Insert both headrest guide bars down into the sleeve guides until they are heard and felt to engage securely. It should not be physically possible to pull the headrest back out without depressing the release button.
- Return and lock the backrest upright until it engages securely ››› in Folding down and raising the rear seat backrest.
WARNING Remove the rear headrests only when it is strictly necessary to fit a bulky child safety seat. Immediately after removing the child seat, refit the headrest back into position without delay.
