The rear seat backrest of your Seat Leon features a versatile split-folding design, allowing each section to be lowered independently to significantly expand cargo capacity for larger items.

Folding the backrest forwards

  • Guide the outer rear seat belts carefully into the dedicated side trim retainers ››› Fig. 95 to prevent jamming during operation.
  • Push the rear seat headrests down into their lowest stowed positions.
  • Press the release button ››› Fig. 96 1 forward while tipping the backrest structure down into the cargo floor plane. Note that the backrest is unlocked whenever the red tab on button 2 remains visible.

Converting the table to a seat

  • Lift the backrest section back up firmly until it catches with an audible latch sound. The red warning tab on button 2 must disappear completely into the housing to confirm proper lock engagement.

WARNING Lowering or raising the rear seat backrests without taking proper precautions can result in severe pinching or impact injuries.

  • Never attempt to fold or raise any section of the rear seat backrest while your Seat Leon is in motion.
  • Ensure the seat belt webbing is guided clear so it does not become caught or crushed in the latching mechanism when restoring the backrest to the upright position.
  • Keep hands, fingers, and feet well away from the hinge pivot points and locking mechanism when moving the backrest sections.
  • To ensure maximum retention performance from the rear seat belts, every backrest section must be securely latched. This structural integrity is critical for the center seating position. An unlatched backrest will pivot forward along with the passenger under heavy braking or during a collision.
  • The red visual indicator on button 2 acts as a safety warning that the backrest latch is open. Always verify that no red marker is visible once the backrest is brought back upright.
  • Never allow anyone (including children) to occupy a rear seat position if the corresponding backrest section is folded down or not fully locked into place.

NOTICE If a seat belt becomes jammed while pulling the seatback up, lower the backrest again to release tension. Hold the belt clear by hand while pushing the backrest into its latched position.

NOTICE Careless handling of the rear seat backrests when folding them can cause damage to interior trim components and surrounding hardware.

  • Before lowering the rear backrest sections, adjust the position of the front seats so the headrests or upper seat cushions do not strike the front seatbacks.
