Seat Leon >> Charging cable
Introduction
Valid for: hybrid vehicles
The specific type of charging cable supplied alongside your vehicle basically depends on the technical specifications and local electrical standards of each country, such as dedicated charging connector connections for domestic or commercial sockets.
SEAT recommends exclusively using the original factory-supplied charging cable to guarantee reliable operation and optimal power management for your Seat Leon.
Notes on the charging cable
- Handle the charging assembly with care at all times.
- Unroll and roll the cable fully before and after every charging session to avoid heat build-up.
- Do not twist or bend the cable sharply over rough or sharp edges.
- Do not crush the insulation or drive the vehicle over any part of the cable harness.
- Always unplug the connection by gripping and pulling directly on the connector housing rather than yanking the cord.
- Children should not handle, operate, or play with the charging cable.
- Keep domestic animals and pets well away from the charging equipment.
- After use, store the cable safely in its designated compartment without twisting or kinking the lines.
DANGER Using a charging cable that has been physically damaged or unauthorizedly tampered with can cause serious personal injury and potentially fatal electric shocks.
- Before each use, carefully check that the connector pins and the main charging cable body remain undamaged—for instance, inspecting the outer casing thoroughly for cracks, exposed wires, or severe wear.
- Never attempt to disassemble the charging cable assembly or any of its internal protective components.
- Never attempt to use a charging cable that shows visible signs of damage or has been tampered with in any way.
- If the charging cable fails to work properly or indicates a fault, have an authorized SEAT dealer or qualified technician inspect it right away.
WARNING An unsecured or improperly stowed charging cable may turn into a dangerous projectile inside the vehicle's interior in the event of sudden driving maneuvers or aggressive emergency braking. This presents a severe risk of serious accidents and cabin injuries.
- Always store the charging cable inside the supplied factory charging cable bag and use the attached carabiner clip to secure the bag directly to the dedicated fastening rings located at the front section of the luggage compartment in your Seat Leon.
Notes on charging connectors and the charging cable protection device
- Do not touch the exposed metal contacts within the charging connector head.
- Protect all equipment from prolonged direct sunlight exposure, keeping ambient operational temperatures below 50ºC or 122ºF.
- Handle components gently and do not drop them on hard ground.
- Protect electrical units from direct immersion in fluids, such as puddles or heavy rain water accumulation.
- Always fit the protective rubber dust caps over the connectors immediately after each use.
WARNING The charging cable designed for standard electrical sockets must always be plugged in directly to a properly grounded wall socket. Failure to observe this rule could result in electrical fire damage and permanent harm to the charging cable or the building's main electrical installation.
- Never connect the charging cable to an intermediate extension lead, cable reel, multi-plug power strip, socket adapter, or external timer device.
NOTICE As a piece of portable electrical equipment, the charging cable may be subject to periodic safety inspections and testing under local regulations.
Performing these standard safety checks typically requires a dedicated test adapter.
NOTICE Always seek precise information regarding the appropriate charging cable type and the maximum permitted charging current before travelling abroad with your Seat Leon. Whenever possible, use the official charging cable approved for use in the destination country.
For the sake of the environment
Damaged or end-of-life charging cables must be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner and should never be discarded with regular household waste.
Note The maximum allowable charging capacity of the specific household safety circuit being used must be strictly observed.
If the charging cable is plugged into an ordinary electrical socket that shares the same circuit with other high-draw power consumers, the circuit breaker or fuses may trip under heavy load.
Cleaning the charging cable
Keep the outer surface of the charging cable clean by wiping it regularly with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth.
DANGER The high-voltage system voltage is extremely dangerous and can cause severe thermal burns, physical injuries, and fatal electric shocks if handled carelessly.
- Only clean the charging cable assembly when it is completely unplugged from both the wall socket and the vehicle inlet.
NOTICE The charging cable materials can suffer permanent damage if not cleaned using appropriate methods.
- Only clear water should be used for wiping down the cable, and you should never apply harsh chemical cleaning products or solvents.
- Care must be taken to prevent water from entering the internal pin contacts or plug connections.
Charging cable for alternating current (AC) charging stations
Valid for: hybrid vehicles

(AC) charging stations.
The maximum charging current delivered to your Seat Leon is typically 16 or 32 amps, depending closely on the vehicle's specific electronic features and the particular high-capacity charging cable supplied by the manufacturer.
WARNING Charging the high-voltage battery using an inappropriate or substandard charging cable could cause dangerous short circuits, serious personal injuries, and fatal electrical shocks.
WARNING The charging cable must never be used as an extension lead or adapter extension. Doing so could severely affect the safe execution of the charging process.
NOTICE Always carefully follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions and guidelines when connecting to and utilizing any public or private charging station.
Note Attempting to charge with a 16 A rated charging cable may not be possible at certain advanced public charging stations that exclusively support 32 A output. This limitation depends entirely on the technical equipment and configuration of the specific charging station.
- Before initiating a charging session with your Seat Leon, always find out about the available local charging technology specifications.

Charging cable information
Before plugging in and using the charging cable for your Seat Leon, you must also carefully review the operational instructions printed directly on the cable housing and on the rear surface of the protective device box.
Protection device
The integrated electronic protection device ››› Fig. 67 functions as a safety gate, ensuring that the vehicle's charging connector does not receive live current until it is securely and properly plugged in to the Seat Leon charging inlet.
Self-check
As soon as the charging cable is plugged into the household electrical socket, the protective device automatically initiates a comprehensive self-test routine. During this diagnostic check, all warning and status control lamps turn on briefly and then switch off sequentially one after the other. Upon successful completion, the exact current operational status is clearly displayed.
Operating displays
One or more of the status control lamps ››› Fig. 67 1, 2, or 3 will light up solid green to indicate normal operation.

Set the charging current
The portable charging cable automatically limits the maximum charging current according to the detected capacity of the available power supply.
If the local household mains supply does not safely allow charging at the maximum available current rating, the charging current can be manually reduced, depending on the specific charging configuration features available within the infotainment system of your Seat Leon.
Temperature control
The built-in charging cable temperature control system automatically switches on if the cable assembly overheats—for instance, when it has been stored tightly in a luggage compartment exposed to high ambient temperatures or direct strong sunlight.

If the charging process continues automatically with a reduced current level, both the operating indicator and the failure warning lamp ››› Fig. 67 4 will flash red as a precaution.
- Unplug the charging cable from the wall mains socket immediately and wait in a safe location for the unit to cool down completely.
- If the device disconnects again during subsequent use, or if the charging current reduces without any obvious external heat source exposure, make sure to check whether the green control lamp is flashing properly ››› Fig. 67. To verify the integrity of the charging cable, please visit an authorized SEAT dealer. Additionally, have a qualified specialist electrician inspect your building's infrastructure electrical connection.
Fault display
If the red warning light 4 flashes or stays lit continuously without any of the standard control lamps ››› Fig. 67 1, 2, or 3 also illuminating continuously on the status panel, it indicates a system fault.

In this state, the vehicle charging process pauses automatically or is completely cancelled for safety.
- Check the troubleshooting instructions printed on the back surface of the protective control device.
- Seek professional assistance from a qualified technician if the fault condition persists.
Note If there is any other active electrical mains connection operating nearby during charging, or if your Seat Leon is parked directly adjacent to heavy high-voltage cables, charging from a standard household electrical socket may be restricted or impossible in certain cases.
Examples of additional mains connections that may interfere include:
- Connecting an auxiliary 12-volt battery charger to the vehicle.
- Simultaneous contact with a powerful workshop tool connected to the mains grid, such as an electric vehicle lift or heavy machinery.
