Child safety seats equipped with a Top Tether system feature an additional upper anchoring belt designed to fasten the restraint securely to a dedicated vehicle anchor point. These approved anchor points are located on the rear side of the rear seat backrests as well as on the back of the front passenger seat backrest (clearly marked with the official anchor symbol Top Tether anchor point identification symbol), providing superior retention and stability during transit ››› Fig. 43, ››› Fig. 44.

The primary engineering objective of the Top Tether system is to restrict forward tipping and rotational movement of the child safety seat during a head-on collision, thereby significantly reducing the risk of head injuries caused by the child striking interior cabin components of your Seat Leon.

Use of Top Tether on rear-facing child restraints

Currently, only a select few rear-facing child restraint systems utilize a Top Tether strap. Always review and follow the child seat manufacturer's operating instructions carefully to ensure correct installation.

  • Extend and deploy the Top Tether strap strictly according to the child seat manufacturer's instructions.
  • Route the strap underneath or around the headrest (depending on the seat's specific manual, lift or temporarily remove the headrest if necessary) ››› Fig. 45, ››› Fig. 46.
  • Guide the strap forward and secure the retaining hook securely onto the designated anchor bracket on the seat backrest ››› Fig. 43 , ››› Fig. 44.
  • Tension the webbing firmly until the indicator confirms proper tightness, following the manufacturer's directions.

Release the tether belt

  • Loosen the webbing tension according to the child seat manufacturer's instructions.
  • Press the locking mechanism release button and unhook the strap from the metal anchor bracket.

WARNING Incorrectly installing child safety seats or fastening tethers improperly increases the risk of injury during an accident.

  • Never anchor the Top Tether strap to luggage compartment lashing hooks, tie-down loops, or cargo rings.
  • Never attach or secure luggage, cargo bags, or other loose items to the lower ISOFIX anchorage bars or the Top Tether anchor loops.

WARNING Vehicle child restraint anchor points are engineered exclusively to withstand the dynamic forces generated by properly secured child restraint systems. Under no circumstances should they be used to anchor adult seat belts, auxiliary harnesses, or other non-approved equipment or items.
