Seat Leon >> Description of the airbag system
The comprehensive airbag system provides supplemental occupant protection during collisions when working in direct coordination with the seat belts inside your Seat Leon.
The airbag system comprises the following modules (depending on the vehicle equipment):
- Electronic control unit and crash sensors
- Front airbags for both the driver and front passenger
- Driver knee airbag module
- Side thorax airbags
- Central front airbag positioned between the driver and front passenger
- Curtain head airbags
- Airbag warning lamp
on the instrument cluster display - Key-operated manual switch for deactivating the front passenger airbag
- Status indicator lamp showing the disabled or enabled state of the front passenger airbag.
The functional readiness of the entire airbag system is monitored continuously by electronic self-diagnostics.
The airbag warning lamp illuminates for a few seconds every time the vehicle ignition is switched on as part of the initial system self-check.
There is a fault in the system if the control
lamp
:
- fails to light up at all when the ignition is switched on,
- does not turn off approximately 4 seconds after switching on the ignition,
- turns off briefly and then lights up again after the ignition is switched on,
- illuminates continuously or flashes while the vehicle is being driven.
The airbag system is not triggered if:
- the vehicle ignition is switched off,
- the collision is a minor frontal impact,
- the collision is a minor side impact,
- the vehicle is struck from behind in a rear-end collision,
- the vehicle overturns but the dynamic deceleration characteristics recorded by the control unit fall below the deployment threshold,
- the impact speed is lower than the reference value programmed into the control unit software.
WARNING
- Seat belts and supplemental airbags can only deliver their maximum protective capability if all vehicle occupants are seated correctly.
- If a functional fault occurs within the airbag system, have it inspected immediately by a qualified technical workshop. Otherwise, there is a serious risk that the system may fail to deploy during a collision, or fail to operate correctly when needed.
Why is it so important to wear a seat
belt and to sit correctly?
For the rapidly inflating airbags in your Seat Leon to achieve their maximum protective potential, vehicle occupants must always wear their safety belts properly and maintain an ergonomically correct ...
