Properly worn seat belts hold the vehicle occupants securely in the exact ergonomic position that provides maximum physical protection in the event of an unexpected collision or sudden emergency braking.
Fastening the seat belt
Always fasten your seat belt securely before setting off on any trip in your Seat Leon.
- Adjust the front seat cushion and head restraint correctly to suit your physical stature.
- Ensure the backrest of any occupied rear seat is locked firmly in an upright position.
- Pull the latch plate smoothly from the retractor and place the belt webbing evenly across the center of your chest and low over your pelvis. Do not twist the belt webbing during this action.
- Insert the metal latch plate firmly into the buckle belonging to your specific seat ››› Fig. 22.
- Pull upward on the shoulder strap to confirm that the latch plate is securely and audibly locked into the buckle mechanism.
Releasing the seat belt
Only unfasten your seat belt once the vehicle has been brought to a complete standstill at your destination.
- Press the prominent red release button on the buckle housing ››› Fig. 23.
The metal latch plate will pop free from the buckle.
- Guide the released belt webbing back toward the pillar by hand so that it retracts smoothly and evenly without striking or scratching the interior door trim.
WARNING
- The safety belt cannot deliver its full protective potential unless the seat backrest is locked in an upright position and the belt webbing is worn correctly, adjusted precisely to your physical size.
- Unbuckling your safety belt while the vehicle is in motion can result in severe or fatal physical injuries during a sudden collision or abrupt braking maneuver.
- A loose or incorrectly positioned seat belt can cause severe trauma if the webbing slips off skeletal structures and applies direct crash forces against soft areas of the human body, such as the abdomen.
