Removing and installing upper transverse link, front-wheel drive

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Torque wrenches - V.A.G 1332-

Rear suspension

Removing

  • Remove rear wheel on affected side.
  • Remove the coil springs.
  • Unhook line -1- from retainer -2- -arrows-.
  • Unscrew nut -3- and take off washer -4-.
  • Unscrew bolt -5-.

Rear suspension

  • Use felt-tip pen or similar to mark position of eccentric bolt -3- in relation to subframe.
  • Unscrew nut -2- and pull out eccentric bolt -3-.
  • Take out upper suspension link -1-.

Installing

Carry out installation in the reverse sequence, noting the following:

  • The threaded connections of the suspension link may only be loosened and tightened in the unladen weight position.

Specified torques

  • Check wheel alignment

  • Torque wrenches - V.A.G 1332-

Rear suspension

Removing

  • Remove rear wheel on affected side.
  • Remove the coil springs.
  • If present, hang out the lines from the bracket on the transverse link.
  • Unscrew nut -1- and remove washer -2-.
  • Unscrew bolt -4-.
  • Remove shim -3-.

Rear suspension

  • Use felt-tip pen or similar to mark position of eccentric bolt -3- in relation to subframe.
  • Unscrew nut -2- and pull out eccentric bolt -3-.
  • Take out upper suspension link -1-.

Installing

Carry out installation in the reverse sequence, noting the following:

  • The threaded connections of the suspension link may only be loosened and tightened in the unladen weight position.

Specified torques

  • Check wheel alignment
