The engine of your Seat Leon is factory-filled with a specialized, high-grade multi-grade engine oil designed for efficient all-year-round operation.
Because the use of premium, high-quality lubrication is essential for the correct mechanical operation, efficiency, and long useful life of the power unit, always ensure that when topping up or changing oil, you use exclusively products that comply strictly with the required VW quality standards.
For vehicles with an engine oil label
If the engine oil level drops and requires topping up, always select and use one of the approved oil specifications shown explicitly on the under-bonnet label ››› Fig. 236.
The reference label displaying the prescribed oil standard is positioned clearly at the front of the engine compartment ››› Fig. 237 1. As long as you continue to use the recommended engine oil type, you can top up the oil level as often as necessary.
For vehicles without an engine oil label
If your vehicle does not feature an engine oil label, contact a qualified specialized workshop or an official SEAT service partner to obtain precise information regarding the corresponding oil standard.
If the engine oil level is too low
If the exact recommended engine oil is temporarily unavailable during an emergency, you are permitted for a single occurrence to top up with a maximum of 0.5 liters of an alternative oil until your next scheduled oil change, provided it meets one of the following specifications:
- Petrol engines: standard VW 504 00, ACEA C3, ACEA C4, API SN, or ILSAC GF-6A.
- Diesel engines: standard VW 507 00, ACEA C3, ACEA C4, or API CK-4.
SEAT strongly recommends having your oil changes performed professionally at a specialized workshop. SEAT recommends visiting an Official SEAT Service partner.
NOTICE SEAT strongly recommends the use of engine oils approved in accordance with the appropriate corporate VW standards. The continuous use of engine oils that fail to meet these stringent quality requirements can lead to severe mechanical wear and permanent engine damage in your Seat Leon.
SEAT recommends utilizing Original SEAT Spare Part engine oils for optimal engine longevity.
Engine oil additives
Under no circumstances should any chemical type of oil additive be mixed with the engine oil. Any mechanical damage or deterioration caused by the addition of such unauthorized additives is explicitly excluded from the vehicle warranty.
Depending on your individual driving style and the operational conditions in which your Seat Leon is used, normal engine oil consumption can reach up to 0.5 liters per 1,000 km. Oil consumption is typically higher during the initial breaking-in period over the first 5,000 km. For this reason, the engine oil level must be inspected at regular intervals—ideally every time you refuel the vehicle and prior to embarking on a long journey.
NOTICE The practice of topping up with 0.5 liters of an alternative oil conforming to one of the indicated secondary standards should be strictly restricted to unexpected roadside emergencies and exceptional individual cases.
NOTICE Please take the following critical instructions into account if you have refilled your engine with an oil grade different from those specified in the aforementioned standards or recommended by your SEAT technical service center:
- It is impossible to completely eliminate the risk of causing long-term damage to the internal engine components and the diesel particulate filter.
- You may continue driving the vehicle normally provided that the emergency refill did not exceed 0.5 liters of engine oil. However, visit a specialized workshop as soon as possible to request a full engine oil change. Neglecting this step creates a severe risk of progressive engine damage.
- If you have topped up with more than 0.5 liters of non-standard oil, you must drive with the engine under low load levels and restrict operation to the medium RPM range as a maximum limit. Do not exceed a driving speed of 80 km/h and do not travel a distance greater than approximately 300 km.
Proceed directly to a specialized workshop without delay and request an immediate oil change.
Failing to do so exposes your Seat Leon to the danger of severe engine failure.
- You bear full personal responsibility for the financial and mechanical risk of any resulting damage to the vehicle's engine and exhaust emission system.
If you harbor any doubts regarding the fluid used, do not start the engine and request professional roadside assistance from the technical service center.
- Never start the engine if you have accidentally topped up with a fluid other than proper engine oil (such as coolant or washer fluid). Request immediate assistance from the official technical service center.
Doing so presents an extreme, immediate danger of catastrophic engine destruction!
Note Before embarking on any long road trip, we highly recommend acquiring a liter of engine oil that conforms precisely to the corresponding VW specifications and keeping it securely stored in your vehicle luggage compartment. This ensures that the correct, approved engine oil is always readily available for a top-up whenever needed.
- If the under-bonnet label displaying the authorized engine oil specifications is missing or illegible ››› Fig. 236, please consult a specialist workshop immediately to verify your engine requirements.
