Opening the bonnet
The front bonnet of your Seat Leon is released safely and conveniently from inside the passenger cabin.
Before pulling the interior release lever, always make sure that the front windscreen wiper arms are resting correctly in place against the glass and have not been left in the vertical service position.
- Open the driver's door and pull the primary release lever located underneath the lower dash panel ››› Fig. 229 1.
- To fully unlatch and lift the bonnet, push the secondary safety lever located under the bonnet edge towards the left in the centre ››› Fig. 230 2. This disengages the primary fastening hooks.
- The bonnet can now be opened fully. Unclip the support prop rod from its retaining clip and secure it securely into the designated fixture slot provided in the underside of the bonnet.
Closing the bonnet
- Slightly lift the bonnet weight with one hand.
- Release the bonnet support prop rod from its mounting slot and snap it firmly back into its securing clip.
- Lower the bonnet until it is approximately 20 cm above the closed position, then let it drop freely under its own weight so that the latch locks securely.
If the bonnet does not latch completely shut on the first try, do not press or push downwards forcefully with your hands. Open it up again and let it drop freely from height as described above.
WARNING Always make certain that the bonnet of your Seat Leon is properly and securely closed before driving off.
If the bonnet unlatches and flies open unexpectedly while driving at speed, it will completely block your forward visibility and cause a severe accident.
NOTICE Under certain freezing weather conditions, ice, frost, or compacted snow may accumulate in the gap between the bonnet edge and the windscreen. Never force the bonnet open if it is frozen shut until you have verified that there is no ice binding the panels or hinge mechanisms, especially around the wiper cowl area.
NOTICE To avoid causing expensive mechanical damage to the front bonnet edge and the windscreen wiper arms, only operate the bonnet release when the windscreen wipers are resting flat against the glass in their home position.
