Seat Leon >> Power sockets

Introduction

Electrical accessories and devices can be conveniently powered using the integrated 12-volt sockets inside your Seat Leon.

All connected equipment must be in proper working condition and free of defects.

Never connect damaged or malfunctioning electrical devices.

The 12-volt power socket functions only when the vehicle ignition is switched on.

WARNING Improper handling of electrical sockets or connected equipment can cause electrical short circuits, overheating, fire, and severe personal injury.

  • Never leave children unattended inside the vehicle. When the ignition is on, the power sockets remain active and connected devices can be operated.
  • If any connected electrical device becomes hot to the touch or shows signs of overheating, turn it off immediately and disconnect it from the socket.

NOTICE

  • To prevent damaging the electrical architecture, never attach power-generating equipment—such as solar charging panels or external battery chargers—to the 12-volt sockets to charge the vehicle's 12-volt battery.

Always ensure connected devices comply fully with relevant electromagnetic compatibility standards.

  • Unplug connected electronics before switching the ignition on or off to protect sensitive circuitry from transient voltage spikes.
  • Do not plug in equipment that exceeds the maximum rated power output of the 12-volt socket. Exceeding current limits can cause blown fuses and damage the electrical system.
  • Always read and follow the specific operating instructions supplied with your electrical devices.

Note

  • Using 12-volt power sockets for extended periods while the engine is turned off will drain the vehicle's 12-volt starter battery.
  • Unshielded or poorly insulated electronic devices can cause electromagnetic interference with radio reception, the central infotainment system, and electronic control modules in your Seat Leon.

Vehicle power sockets

  1. 12-volt power sockets positioned inside the front central armrest storage compartment.
  2. 12-volt USB charging sockets mounted at the rear of the center console between the front seats.

Always check that the combined maximum power consumption of your connected electrical accessories does not exceed the rated output of the sockets. You can verify the exact power rating on the manufacturer data plate attached to each device.

The total continuous electrical output for all 12-volt sockets inside your Seat Leon combined is 120 watts maximum.

When plugging in two or more electronic devices simultaneously across the cabin outlets, take care to ensure their cumulative power draw does not exceed 190 watts at any given point.

USB power sockets

Depending on the specific factory equipment package and regional specifications, your Seat Leon may feature dedicated USB ports intended strictly for device charging and auxiliary power supply ››› Fig. 167 2.

These high-efficiency USB charging ports are conveniently located at the rear of the center console, making them easily accessible to rear passengers. Each individual USB port provides a maximum charging output of up to 10.5 watts.

NOTICE Operating the 12-volt socket at maximum power draw for extended periods can cause electrical circuit overload and blow the protective fuse.

  • Do not operate the 12-volt socket continuously at maximum load for longer than 10 minutes at a time.
  • When drawing high electrical loads, draw power from a single 12-volt socket rather than splitting load across multiple ports.

230-volt power socket

Fig. 168 In the luggage compartment: 230- volt power socket.

While the vehicle engine is running, the 230-volt AC socket activates automatically as soon as an electrical plug is inserted into the receptacle.

The maximum continuous power draw for this socket is 150 watts, with a peak surge capability of up to 300 watts for a maximum duration of 2 minutes.

To connect an electrical device: Lift open the protective spring cover and push the plug fully into the socket until it seats completely to disengage the built-in child safety lock. The socket will only deliver current once this safety mechanism is fully disengaged.

LED on the power socket ››› Fig. 168 (arrow)

Steady green light:

  • The childproof safety lock is fully unlocked, and the 230-volt socket is active and ready to deliver power.

Flashing green light:

  • The ignition has been turned off, but sufficient residual power remains in the vehicle system to keep supplying electrical current to the socket for up to 10 minutes. If you remove the plug before this 10-minute timer expires, the outlet shuts down automatically and will remain inactive until the ignition is switched back on.

If insufficient electrical power remains available in the 12V starter battery, the socket cannot be used while the engine is turned off to preserve starting capacity.

Flashing red light:

  • There is an operational anomaly, such as automatic disconnection triggered by a current surge or system overheating.

Disconnection due to overheating

When internal operating temperature exceeds a safe threshold, the 230-volt socket power inverter inside your Seat Leon automatically shuts down. This thermal safety disconnection prevents severe overheating whenever the total power draw of connected devices is excessive or ambient cabin temperatures are very high. The 230-volt power supply becomes available for use again once a suitable cooling period has elapsed. First, unplug the connector of the attached device from the outlet, then plug it back in after cooling. This safeguard prevents connected electronics from restarting unexpectedly.

WARNING The 230-volt power socket electrical system carries high voltage and poses an electric shock hazard!

  • Do not spill liquids onto or around the power socket assembly.
  • Do not plug intermediate adapters or extension leads into the 230-volt power socket. Doing so bypasses and unlocks the integrated child lock, leaving the high-voltage socket energized.
  • Never insert conductive metallic objects, such as a knitting needle or wire, into the socket contacts.

NOTICE 230-volt power socket:

  • Do not leave bulky, heavy devices or power adapters (such as heavy brick transformers) hanging directly from the socket wall, as this can strain the socket housing.
  • Do not plug in neon lighting fixtures or fluorescent lamps.
  • Only plug in electrical equipment if the device's rated input voltage matches the 230-volt socket specification.
  • The built-in overload protection feature prevents high-draw equipment requiring elevated initial starting current from powering up. If this occurs in your Seat Leon, unplug the power connector and attempt the connection again after waiting roughly 10 seconds.

Note Certain household appliances or power tools may fail to operate properly when plugged into 230-volt sockets due to insufficient wattage output capacity.
