Seat Leon >> Predictive speed adjustment
Introduction
The predictive speed adjustment function on your Seat Leon automatically adapts vehicle speed to match recognized speed limits as well as upcoming road layouts, such as sharp curves, intersections, roundabouts, and junctions.
Predictive speed adjustment functions as an advanced supplemental extension of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system, intelligently utilizing road sign detection data alongside integrated navigation database information from the infotainment system.
Predictive speed adjustment is available depending on the specific equipment package of your Seat Leon, though it may not be offered in all countries or regional markets.
WARNING The smart assistance technology behind predictive speed adjustment cannot defy the unyielding laws of physics and operates only within established system boundaries. Never allow the increased convenience offered by this function to tempt you into taking safety risks. If used negligently, carelessly, or involuntarily, it can cause severe accidents and personal injuries.
This automated feature is never a replacement for continuous driver alertness and concentration.
- Always adapt your driving speed to suit prevailing visibility, weather conditions, road surfaces, and traffic flow.
- Always maintain full attention on surrounding traffic and keep your eyes focused on the vehicle's immediate environment at all times.
- Always remain fully prepared to take over and adjust your speed manually. If the road sign recognition system is experiencing a fault or if the navigation map data is outdated, vehicle speed may change unexpectedly and suddenly, or may no longer be suitable for current traffic conditions. Furthermore, the speed chosen by the system may not match your personal driving style.
- Always be ready to regulate your speed yourself. If you drive without an active route guidance destination set, if you deviate from the route calculated by the onboard navigation system, or if vehicle positioning is inaccurate because GPS satellite signals are weak, vehicle speed could adjust abruptly and inappropriately for current traffic conditions.
- Always ensure you update your navigation map data regularly.
- Always observe official road speed limits independently. In situations where temporary speed restrictions are not yet included in the navigation database, official speed limits may be exceeded if relied upon blindly.
Note Please also read and observe all safety instructions and operational warnings relevant to the standard Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system.
Limitations of the predictive speed adjustment
In addition to the inherent technical limitations of the road sign recognition system and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the predictive speed adjustment function on your Seat Leon features several restrictions that are intrinsic to the system architecture:
- Predictive speed adjustment is designed to recognise physical or digital road signs that display an explicit speed limit. Crucially, the predictive system does not take priority-of-passage rules, right-of-way signs, or traffic lights into account.
- Road signs that imply a speed restriction indirectly—such as standard town or city boundary entry signs—are recognised exclusively on the basis of onboard navigation map data.
- On road stretches that are missing from the navigation database or stored with low geographical accuracy, predictive speed adjustment will remain unavailable.
- If a speed limit adjustment is triggered based solely on navigation database information without that specific sign being detected optically by the road sign recognition camera, the indicated target speed will default to the most recently saved baseline speed.
- Predictive speed adjustment is unavailable for speed limit restrictions below approximately 20 km/h (approx. 15 mph). Whenever such a low-speed zone is encountered, a corresponding explanatory notification message appears on the instrument cluster display.
Activating the predictive speed adjustment
Within the central infotainment system, by navigating into the assist services configuration menu, you can individually customize and select the types of road events your Seat Leon should react to:
- Response to upcoming road layout geometry.
- Response to legally permitted speed limits.
Driving with predictive speed adjustment
- Switch on and connect the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system.
- Establish your desired following distance and cruising speed.
- Activate the predictive speed adjustment function in the menu.
As soon as the system recognises an upcoming speed limit sign or a relevant road layout feature along your navigation route, a clear warning prompt will appear on the digital instrument cluster display. This notification will indicate both the underlying reason and the target speed to which your vehicle will adapt due to that specific route feature.
Indication of turning intention
If you switch on your directional turn signals to indicate an intention to turn, the predictive cruise control system can proactively reduce vehicle speed ahead of the next available turning point.
However, predictive cruise control will not detect your turning intention in the following scenarios:
- A broken or dashed lane marking is recognised in the direction toward which the turn signal is activated.
- The turn signals are not switched on sufficiently far in advance of the turn.
Indication of regulation in progress
Adjustment due to an official speed limit.
Adjustment due to the end of a speed limit zone.
Adjustment due to an upcoming roundabout.
Adjustment due to an upcoming junction.
Adjustment due to road layout geometry.
In the event of an adjustment triggered by a speed limit sign, the newly detected speed threshold is saved permanently as your new desired cruising speed. Conversely, during adjustments caused by road layout features like sharp curves, your Seat Leon will automatically accelerate back up after passing the obstacle, returning your speed to the previously saved cruising setpoint.
Target speeds maintained through curve control vary depending on your currently selected drive profile mode.
Interrupting speed adjustment
- While an advance warning message is displayed, press the steering wheel button
. - While active speed regulation is in progress, press the button
.
Adjust the announced speed
The announced target speed can only be manually modified while an adjustment due to a recognized speed limit is taking place.
Multifunction steering wheel:
+ 1 km/h (1 mph)
- 1 km/h (1 mph)
+ 10 km/h (5 mph)
- 10 km/h (5 mph)
Note
- When an official speed restriction is recognised along your path, predictive speed adjustment will adapt the stored target speed in memory even if the main ACC system is switched off.
However, no automatic vehicle braking or speed regulation will take place in that state.
- If your actual travel speed considerably exceeds the posted speed limit detected by the road sign recognition camera, a prominent warning message is displayed on the instrument cluster screen.
- When merging onto an unrestricted highway or motorway section, the recommended highway advisory speed is automatically stored as your desired target speed. If a higher preferred speed value was previously stored for a motorway without limits, that higher value is used instead of the standard recommendation.
Troubleshooting
A message is displayed indicating that predictive speed adjustment is not currently available or not available in your country.
- If this notification message remains displayed on your dashboard screen for an extended period and predictive speed adjustment is officially supported in your country, contact an authorized specialist workshop for inspection.
Note Depending on the exact nature of the detected system anomaly, supplementary diagnostic information may be shown under Vehicle status in the infotainment system.
