Seat Leon >> Troubleshooting
The engine does not start
The indicator lamp lights up green on the display.
The foot brake is not depressed, which is required—for example—when attempting to move the gear selector lever out of park or neutral.
- To successfully select a driving gear range in your Seat Leon, firmly press and hold the foot brake pedal.
Indications on the instrument cluster display: Clutch
Clutch overheated Please stop!
- The transmission clutch has overheated and could suffer permanent mechanical damage if driving continues. Pull over and stop the vehicle safely. Wait for the gearbox to cool down while keeping the engine idling and pressing the P parking lock button. Once the warning lamp and driver message turn off completely, drive carefully to a specialized workshop to get the underlying fault inspected and repaired. If the warnings do not turn off, do not continue driving under any circumstances. Seek professional towing and specialist assistance.
Faults in the gearbox
Gearbox: Fault! Stop the vehicle and place the lever in P
- A critical anomaly has been detected in the automatic gearbox. Stop your Seat Leon in a safe place away from traffic immediately and do not continue driving. Seek authorized specialist assistance.
Gearbox: System fault! You may continue driving
- A system fault has occurred within the transmission control unit. Have the fault diagnosed and corrected by a specialized SEAT workshop without undue delay.
Gearbox: System fault! You can continue driving with restrictions. Reverse gear disabled
- Take your vehicle directly to a specialized workshop to have the transmission fault repaired. Note that reverse gear will not be available while this fault persists.
Gearbox: System fault! You can continue driving in D until switching off the engine
- Stop the vehicle safely as soon as conditions permit. Once the engine is switched off, the system may prevent restarting. Seek professional assistance immediately.
Gearbox: too hot. Adapt your driving accordingly
- Continue driving slowly and avoid high loads or aggressive acceleration. As soon as the warning lamp goes out and transmission temperatures normalize, you can resume normal driving.
Gearbox: press the brake and engage a gear again
- If the previous warning was triggered solely by high gearbox temperatures, this driver message will appear automatically once the gearbox has cooled down sufficiently, prompting you to re-engage a gear.
Emergency mode
If all the gear position indicators on the instrument cluster screen are shown over a solid light background, a major system fault has occurred, and the automatic gearbox will operate using an emergency backup programme. It is still technically possible to drive the Seat Leon home or to a workshop, but only at low speeds and within a restricted range of gears. Operating in reverse gear may be disabled entirely.
Parking lock manual release mechanism
If an electrical power failure occurs (such as a completely discharged 12-volt vehicle battery) and your Seat Leon must be towed, the electronic parking lock can be released manually using a specialized procedure. In this emergency scenario, you should always seek professional technical assistance.
Inertia mode
The inertia (coasting) mode on your Seat Leon allows you to travel certain distances without using the accelerator pedal, which effectively saves fuel and reduces emissions. By planning ahead and util ...
