Reliability and capacity of the high-voltage battery

In principle, lithium-ion batteries are subject to chemical aging and mechanical wear throughout their operational lifespan due to their inherent physical and electrochemical properties.

Proper daily care and correct handling of the high-voltage battery pack play a vital role in maintaining long-term reliability, optimizing overall battery capacity, and preserving electric driving range. For these reasons, adhering to the conservation guidelines detailed below is essential for maintaining the overall condition and residual value of your Seat Leon over time.

Please make sure to review the official SEAT warranty terms and conditions regarding high-voltage battery coverage and service requirements.

Conservation instructions

SEAT recommends following these specific operational guidelines to maximize battery health:

  • Whenever practical, connect the vehicle to charge when the instrument cluster displays a low state of charge or when the remaining electric range is depleted.
  • It is best to avoid recharging the high-voltage battery immediately after driving only a very short distance in pure electric mode.
  • Avoid allowing the high-voltage battery to remain fully discharged, such as leaving the car parked for an extended period with minimal remaining charge. Ensure the state of charge does not drop below 20% for prolonged intervals.
  • Once the high-voltage battery reaches a 100% full charge, begin driving your Seat Leon promptly whenever possible rather than letting it sit fully charged.
  • For daily driving routines, try to avoid maintaining battery charge levels above 80% whenever maximum range is not required.

Vehicle parking times

  • During freezing winter conditions, avoid leaving the vehicle parked for several hours if the battery charge level has dropped below 40%.
  • If you intend to leave your vehicle stationary for an extended duration, ensure the battery is parked with a minimum charge level of 30%. Typical scenarios include leaving the car parked long-term at an airport terminal while traveling.
  • Do not subject the vehicle to extreme ambient temperatures below -30 ºC (-22 ºF) or above 60 ºC (140 ºF) for periods exceeding 24 consecutive hours.
  • To preserve battery energy reserves and overall system efficiency, use the stationary air conditioning feature (depending on vehicle equipment) sparingly, especially when ambient temperatures drop below -15 ºC (5 ºF).

NOTICE The high-voltage battery must never be used as a stationary energy storage system or off-grid power supply. Utilizing the battery for non-automotive applications can cause permanent and irreversible damage to the high-voltage cells.

NOTICE Leaving your Seat Leon parked long-term with a completely drained high-voltage battery may render the system unable to accept a charge or start the vehicle engine. Prolonged deep discharge leads to permanent electrochemical degradation of the traction battery.

  • Ensure the high-voltage battery is recharged at regular intervals during extended vehicle storage periods.
