Seat Leon >> Emergency braking warning

If you perform a sudden, continuous emergency braking maneuver at speeds exceeding 80 km/h (50 mph), the rear brake lamps will flash rapidly several times per second to warn trailing drivers behind you. If your emergency braking continues until your Seat Leon comes to a complete standstill, the hazard warning lights will automatically switch on. They will turn off automatically once the vehicle starts moving forward again.

WARNING

  • Experiencing a vehicle breakdown on the road significantly increases the risk of a secondary accident. Always switch on the hazard warning lights and set up a warning triangle (or portable light beacon, depending on local legal requirements) to draw immediate attention to your stationary Seat Leon.
  • Never leave any person unattended inside the vehicle cabin, especially young children or individuals requiring assistance. This is particularly critical when the doors are locked from the outside. Individuals trapped or locked inside a car can be exposed to dangerously high or freezing temperatures.
  • Due to the extreme operating temperatures reached by the exhaust catalytic converter, never park your car over dry grass, brushwood, or other flammable materials where hot exhaust components could come into contact with combustible debris.

Doing so can easily ignite a sudden fire.

Note

  • Leaving the hazard warning lights switched on for an extended period will drain the 12-volt vehicle battery (even when the ignition is switched off).
  • The use of hazard warning lights is governed strictly by applicable statutory traffic regulations in each jurisdiction.

Behaviour in the event of an accident or fire

Actions to take in the event of a fire or accident

For your own personal protection and the safety of your passengers, observe the following emergency procedures strictly in the order listed:

  • Switch off the engine immediately.
  • Switch on the hazard warning lights as soon as possible.
  • Comply with all statutory regulations of the country (such as donning a reflective safety vest and deploying a warning triangle or light beacon).
  • Guide all passengers and people out of the immediate danger zone and administer first aid if needed.
  • Contact the emergency services without delay.
  • Retreat to a safe distance away from the accident scene and wait for emergency responders to arrive.
  • In the event of an active vehicle fire, never attempt to extinguish the flames yourself or linger close to the burning car.

WARNING For your personal safety, never ignore this crucial emergency protocol; failing to follow these steps can lead to severe secondary accidents and catastrophic injuries.

  • Always complete the actions outlined in the checklist and keep standard safety precautions in mind.

WARNING Vehicle fires carry an extreme risk of sudden explosions and can release toxic chemical fumes harmful to health, resulting in severe physical injuries.

  • Never remain standing near a burning vehicle.
