Seat Leon >> Head-protection airbags

Fig. 34 Location and deployment area of the head-protection airbag.

Head-protection airbags are fitted along both sides of the vehicle interior, positioned directly above the doors along the roof frame ››› Fig. 34, with their exact location clearly designated by the embossed word "AIRBAG".

Working in direct combination with three-point seat belts, these Side Curtain Protection airbags provide vital supplementary cushioning for the upper body and head of vehicle occupants during severe side collisions or vehicle rollover events.

The framed area represents the precise zone covered by the head-protection airbag when it deploys (deployment area) ››› Fig. 34. Consequently, objects must never be placed, stored, or mounted anywhere within this dynamic expansion path.

In the event of a severe side impact, the curtain airbag triggers automatically on the impact side of the vehicle cabin.

The head-protection airbags significantly reduce the risk of head and neck injury for passengers occupying both front and outer rear seats directly facing the collision area.

WARNING

  • To ensure the head-protection airbags can deliver their maximum protective performance, all occupants must maintain the prescribed upright sitting posture with seat belts securely buckled at all times while traveling in your Seat Leon.
  • For safety reasons, the curtain airbag system must be deactivated in specialized vehicle conversions equipped with a rigid interior partition screen between cabin rows.

Consult an authorized technical service workshop to perform this software adjustment correctly.

  • No other persons, pets, or loose items must occupy the space between outer seat passengers and the deployment envelope of the head-protection airbags, allowing the curtain to inflate completely without physical restriction. Accessories such as non-approved sun blinds or suction-mounted shades must never be attached to the side windows.
  • Ensure child passengers are seated correctly in suitable restraint systems and that their heads do not extend into the deployment zone of the head curtain airbags ››› Fig. 34, where explosive inflation could cause serious physical trauma.
  • The built-in coat hooks should be used exclusively for light garments. Never leave heavy, hard, or sharp items in clothing pockets.

Do not use rigid clothes hangers to hang garments inside the vehicle.

  • Airbag modules are engineered to provide protection for a single accident event only; always have deployed curtain airbags completely replaced following a collision.
  • Any repair work on the head-protection airbag network or removal and reassembly of adjacent trim components (such as lowering the roof lining fabric) must be carried out exclusively by a specialized workshop. Improper procedures can introduce operational faults into the airbag system.
  • The side and curtain airbags rely on crash pressure sensors integrated inside the front doors. To preserve the reliable operation of these sensors, neither the door shells nor the internal door panels should be altered in any way (such as fitting non-standard audio loudspeakers). If a front door sustains physical damage, the airbag sensor network may fail to function correctly. All door repairs must be performed by a specialized technical workshop.
