Seat Leon >> Maintenance and disposal of seat belt tensioners

SEAT Leon (4th Generation, KL; 2020+) Owner’s Manual / Safety / Seat belts / Maintenance and disposal of seat belt tensioners

The belt tensioners are integral components of the seat belts installed in the seating positions of your Seat Leon. If you perform maintenance work on the belt tensioners or remove and reinstall related components during other vehicle repairs, the seat belt assemblies may suffer damage. Consequently, in the event of an accident, the tensioners might function incorrectly or fail to operate altogether.

Strict safety regulations, which are well known to specialized technical workshops, must be observed at all times. This ensures that the overall protective effectiveness of the seat belt tensioners is not compromised and that removed pyrotechnic parts do not cause physical injuries or environmental contamination.

WARNING Improper handling and DIY home repairs performed on seat belts, automatic retractors, and pyrotechnic belt tensioners significantly increase the risk of serious or fatal injuries. Under improper handling, tensioners may fail to activate during a crash when required, or they might deploy unexpectedly while handling.

  • Never attempt to repair, adjust, disassemble, or reassemble seat belt components or tensioner modules yourself.

Always have any maintenance or replacement work carried out exclusively by a qualified specialist workshop.

  • Damaged or deployed seat belts, belt tensioners, and automatic retractors cannot be repaired under any circumstances and must be completely replaced with new components.

For the sake of the environment

Airbag modules and seat belt tensioner units may contain chemical perchlorate compounds.

Always observe all applicable legal requirements and environmental standards for their safe handling and disposal.
