Introduction

The driver attention monitor integrated into your Seat Leon informs the driver whether his or her driving behaviour is indicative of a lack of attention, evaluating both where they are looking and how the vehicle's operating inputs are being managed.

The driver attention monitor assesses vehicle operating inputs to determine whether the driver is distracted. Additionally, a specialized interior camera fitted near the rear-view mirror continuously monitors the driver's head posture, facial state, actions, and gaze direction.

If the system detects that the driver's attention is wandering, it indicates this on the instrument cluster display using a dedicated control or warning lamp combined with a supplementary text message.

Depending on the specific vehicle configuration, it also emits an audible warning chime. The informative text message on the instrument cluster display remains visible for 4 to 6 seconds.

Note Depending on regional market specifications, the vehicle may include an interior rear-view-mirror camera that supplies additional data streams to support this safety function. The camera records and temporarily stores solely the data strictly required for closed-loop system operation. Consequently, no information is transmitted outside the vehicle network, and no personal data or images are permanently processed or stored.

Operating conditions

Driver attention and gaze behaviour are evaluated only when the vehicle speed is higher than 20 km/h.

WARNING The driver attention monitor can never serve as a substitute for active driver alertness and operates strictly within technical system limits. Therefore, the driver attention monitor may occasionally fail to detect whether the driver is paying attention in complex situations, may omit a reaction, or may react with a delay or in an unwanted manner. There is an inherent risk of accidents and serious or even fatal physical injuries.

  • Always maintain full concentration on the road ahead and do not rely solely on automated driver assistance systems. The driver remains fully responsible for his or her fitness to drive at all times.
  • Always keep the functional limits of the system in mind.
  • Avoid all avoidable distractions while driving your Seat Leon.
  • Adjust all personal vehicle settings and infotainment options before starting your journey.
  • Follow all information and prompts appearing on the instrument cluster display and respond accordingly.

Note In the event of a persistent system fault, have the attention monitor checked by a qualified workshop. SEAT recommends that you visit an official dealer.

System limits affecting the driver attention monitor

The driver attention monitor has inherent system-related limitations. The following conditions may limit the overall operation of the driver attention monitor or prevent it from functioning altogether in your Seat Leon:

  • Vehicle speeds falling below 20 km/h.
  • Severe driver distraction caused by external environment factors, such as dense or erratic traffic.
  • Severe driver distraction resulting from non-vehicle activities (for instance, operating a mobile phone or handheld device).
  • Insufficient or obstructed facial recognition tracking.
  • Complex driving scenarios requiring rapid, frequent eye movements (such as navigating busy junctions, roundabout maneuvers, or merging onto motorways).
  • Direct obstructions blocking the field of view of the interior camera (mounted on the rear-view mirror assembly) toward the driver, specifically the eyes and head area. This can stem from shadows or physical coverage caused by peaked caps, thick scarves, eyewear (particularly tinted lenses or glasses that block infrared rays), or an extended sun visor.
  • Direct glare blinding the interior mirror camera, such as low-angle sunlight shining into the cabin.
  • An incorrectly positioned or misaligned rear-view mirror unit.
  • Fogged, dirty, smudged, or physically damaged glass on the interior rear-view mirror module.
  • An unsuitable or heavily reclined seating position adopted by the driver.
  • Physical or physiological limitations affecting the driver (such as eye movement disorders or facial paralysis).

Driving with the driver attention monitor

Connection and disconnection

You can turn the driver attention monitor on and off manually according to your driving preferences.

Within the central infotainment system interface:

1. Open the main Assistance systems menu on the touchscreen display.

2. Switch the driver attention monitor on or off in the designated submenu option.

3. OR: Toggle the function via the quick access drop-down menu using the interactive scroll bar.

Note Depending on specific regional market regulations, this safety feature is configured to activate automatically every time the ignition is switched on.

Concealing messages via the multi-function steering wheel

1. Press the OK button located on the right control cluster of the multifunction steering wheel to dismiss active alerts.

If the system detects that driver focus is wandering away from the road, it highlights this state on the digital instrument cluster display using a control or warning lamp alongside a clear text message. Depending on the vehicle's personal safety configuration, an audible chime will also sound to prompt immediate focus.

Depending on your active settings, an acoustic warning chime may sound. A white control lamp and an informative text message appear simultaneously on the instrument cluster display reading: "Pay attention to traffic".

Troubleshooting

Yellow warning light indicating restricted driver attention monitor availability The availability of the driver attention monitor is restricted

An audible alert sounds. A yellow control light illuminates alongside an explanatory text message on the instrument cluster screen, signaling that the operational availability of the driver attention monitor in your Seat Leon is currently restricted.

  • Temporary software glitch or sensor fault. Deactivate and reactivate the vehicle drive system by restarting the engine.
  • If the notification persists, visit a qualified technical workshop. SEAT recommends contacting an official service partner.

Yellow central warning lamp showing driver attention monitor system unavailable The driver attention monitor is unavailable

An acoustic warning chime sounds. The yellow warning lamp lights up on the instrument cluster in combination with the central yellow master warning light. A detailed text message also appears on the instrument screen and within the infotainment vehicle status menu.

  • Review the common causes and recommended corrective steps detailed in the driver attention monitor section of your manual.
  • System fault or component failure. Deactivate and reactivate the vehicle drive system, then verify the driver attention monitor toggle settings in your infotainment menu.
  • Environmental operating limits or camera visibility bounds have been exceeded.
  • If the issue remains unresolved, consult a qualified workshop. SEAT recommends scheduling an inspection with an official dealer.
