Seat Leon >> Coolant specifications
The engine cooling system of your Seat Leon is factory-filled with an optimized mixture of specially treated water and at least 40% high-grade coolant additive conforming to specification G12evo (TL-VW 774 L).
Always consult a qualified specialist workshop to obtain precise information regarding which specific coolant formulation is fully suitable for your vehicle model version.
SEAT recommends visiting an authorized SEAT dealership for professional fluid selection and top-ups.
To ensure reliable protection of the engine cooling system against corrosion and freezing, the proportion of coolant additive should always be maintained at a minimum of 40%. If enhanced frost and antifreeze protection is required due to harsh regional climatic conditions, the additive proportion can be increased safely. However, it should only be increased up to a absolute maximum of 55%; exceeding this threshold would paradoxically reduce the antifreeze protection level and severely impair the thermal cooling efficiency of the system.
Genuine G12evo coolant (TL-VW 774 L) can be easily recognized by its distinctive lilac coloration when mixed. This precision mixture of water and additive not only provides reliable antifreeze protection down to -25 degrees Celsius (-13 degrees Fahrenheit), but also actively shields all light-alloy components within the cooling circuit against corrosion, prevents limescale and mineral build-up, and considerably elevates the boiling point of the coolant.
Whenever you need to top up the cooling system, always use a pre-mixed solution composed of distilled water and at least 40% of the appropriate factory-approved coolant additive to ensure optimum corrosion protection.
WARNING If the vehicle's cooling system lacks sufficient antifreeze protection during cold weather, the engine can freeze and fail completely, resulting in major mechanical damage and hazardous situations.
- Always ensure that the coolant fluid additive percentage is correct and adequate, taking fully into account the lowest expected ambient temperatures in the geographic region where your Seat Leon is to be operated.
- When outside temperatures drop to extreme lows, an under-protected coolant mixture can freeze solid, immobilizing the vehicle entirely. In such emergency scenarios, the vehicle cabin heating system will also fail to function, and inadequately dressed passengers could suffer from severe hypothermia or freezing conditions.
NOTICE Never mix G12evo coolant (TL-VW 774 L) with conventional engine coolants or alternative fluids that have not been officially approved by SEAT.
- If the fluid visible inside the expansion tank does not exhibit a clean pinkish hue (resulting from the lilac additive mixing with distilled water), but appears brown, murky, or discolored instead, it indicates that the correct coolant has likely been mixed with an incompatible fluid. The entire coolant circuit must be flushed and changed as soon as possible if this occurs! Failing to do so can result in serious mechanical malfunctions, sludge formation, and permanent damage to the engine and cooling system of your Seat Leon.
For the sake of the environment
Motor coolant and its chemical additives can pollute natural ecosystems. If any operating fluid leaks from the vehicle, contain it immediately, collect it in a suitable container, and dispose of it properly in compliance with local environmental regulations.
